Facebook push notifications not working on my iPhone 4S iOS 5.0.1

facebook push notifications are not working on my iPhone 4S all of a sudden.

I have been through the facebook settings menu, every single notification is on. I have been under Mail, Contacts and Calendar settings and made sure that 'fetch new data' > 'push' is enabled. I have deleted and reinstalled the app several times, I have tried quitting both facebook and facebook messenger switching my iPhone off and back on again numerous times. I have even tried rebooting the iPhone using both buttons but all to no avail. It happened a couple of days ago although over the last few weeks I have noticed that facebook notifications were coming through a lot slower than my iPad where as at one time they both came through together. My iPad 2 still gets the facebook notifications only my iPhone has stopped which is even more puzzling. 😕

If anyone can shed any light on this I'd be very grateful as it's really starting to annoy me not having notifications. I'm having to manually check for them all the time when I'm out and waiting on a message from a friend or family. 😠

Thank you for reading and thank you in advance for any help you can provide!

Did u happen to have the facebook messenger? And thats what you deleted? So you are saying you didnt solve it by deactivating your facebook account?

Maybe explain a little more for people with similar issues, so they can troubleshoot. I know that was helpful for me when I fixed my issue.

I remember being on a thread discussing my issue and this one guy said that maybe it is certain facebook "accounts" that have notification issues. Because I just couldnt wrap my head around why it would work for other people and not ME. Obviously it didnt sound like an app issue.

I than remembered another user saying that he could log into his wifes account on his phone and get notifications and he couldnt. It than dawned on me that it has to be the account. So I deactivated my account and viola...it worked!!! and I was sooo happy since I had been at this for about 2 weeks..lol.

Glad you got it fixed.

Ok, this is what I figured out after 4 hours of testing. Restoring as a new device didn't help for me. Also hard reset, re-installs, unchecking and checking all notification options did not help. I installed facebook messenger but also this program did not have notifications (all my other notifications work.....)

As my wife deactivated her account I made up a new test account and logged in on my Iphone 4S. Surprisingly this new account had no notification problem at all. The problem is I had been testing with messages all along (and not with reactions on wall posts). It now turns out that all works fine on my original account except for notifications of private messages (or you can call them chat messages). They will simply not work on my original account but work perfectly on my new test account.

The only difference between the test account and the original acount is that I a have an active user account (FB is doing some testing with acttive users so that they receive lesse indicidual mails by gving those users the option (a check box) to receive overview mails) . See also http://socialsunil.com/facebooks-summary-email-feature-for-active-users/. Could this be the reason I do not receive private message notofications?

I do not know but I definitely know this is an account problem and not an hardware or software problem. So to all of you try to log in with a different or test account to corner the problem. Please react on this post if you have a solution.

Update: I tried to install some messenger apps to see if they are able to send me the facebook message notifications. I tried two free apps (ebuddy and IM+). They both work and DO send me the push messages if someone sends me a private message on FB. But now something strange happened: Ebuddy was giving some errors so I uninstalled it. I installed IM+ and now also the FB message notifications were working again. I uninstalled IM+ and it still works. The only thing I have done that could have triggered the FB message notifications was logging off to FB in the app an restart my iphone (normal restart not a hard restart). Next to that I sent FB a bug report with the same text as above but I do not think that has solved the problem (or is the whole FB notifications are just hampering). Either way my problem has been solved for now...... Hope that my story can help some if you in the right direction....

Hey s1mon87,

In reply to your post, Sneak1979's method worked for me, I'm on an iPhone 4 16GB on iOS 5.1.1 and the Facebook app stopped sending me push notifications, I too was getting frustrated about the situation, did the uninstall/reinstall and it still wouldn't send me notifications.

As Sneak1979 did minus the ebuddy install, I logged out of the Facebook app, installed IM+, added and logged into my Facebook account, I then tested it by sending my self a message with my friends account, for some reason IM+ wasn't receiving the inbox/Facebook chat message nor the notifications, I left it logged in and in the task manager, pressed the home button, logged back in on the Facebook app, sent test messages and presto! I was getting the notifications, I uninstalled IM+ and it still works, just to make sure, I even closed the Facebook app in the task manager, pressed the lock button at the top of my iPhone, sent another message and again I received notifications!

Sorry for writing a book but I thought I should be in depth about my explanation, hope this works for others, thank you Sneak1979 for the quick fix :)

It took me for ever but I solved this, the reason why I wasn't getting push notifications is that on the notification center I didn't have the mail activated so if like me you have troubles first try going to settings, then mail (and activate everything including the banner thing) after that make sure that Facebook is activated too in the notification center and with the banner option... hopefully like me, you should get your notifications

Also make sure that push is on and also that it is on inside the Mail, Contacts, Calendars

I hope this works for you too because it took me a long time to figure it out and so far it has worked with two iPhones

My problem with facebook v5 on a 4s iPhone is that the facebook app disappeared from the “In Notification Center” (after I update the app to latest version 5 everything was ok but then I installed some other apps: games, utilities etc from app store and suddenly the Facebook app was missing form the “In Notification Center”) and I don’t know what to do to bring it back.

Also I am not receiving push notifications..

Do you have any suggestions?

Thanks

Ok so try this, go to facebook(computer) go in the account settings, and than mobile settings, go to facebook messages and make sure to set it to text me when someone sends me a message on web or mobile. It will enable the other person to have the message sent to your facebook app on your phone! It doesnt make sense but this is what I did. Also turn text notifications OFF!

go to facebook(computer) go in the account settings, and than mobile settings, go to facebook messages and make sure to set it to text me when someone sends me a message on web or mobile. It will enable the other person to have the message sent to your facebook app on your phone! It doesnt make sense but this is what I did. Also turn text notifications OFF! Its the same thing I told AlinSt to do...we have to start somewhere
