How do I temporarily turn off my Mac's firewall and/or virus protection so Carbonite can upload my data?

I don't have Lion, but Snow Leopard but have been using Carbonite with no problems (though I know some people have had them) for over a year. I have my Firewall on but no virus protection and Carbonite just backs up whenever I have added or made changes to a document. I have used it to recover a file one time. You might email the Carbonite people to see if the problem is on their end.

Watch out with Carbonite!

I found that it is not able to return many of the database for Apple products are not returned in a usable format.

I highly recommend that if you are going to use Carbonite that you test everything before commiting to it as your backup solution.

Shouldn't any run virus protection. Best it can do is make your Mac take a hit on performance.

Do you have third-party anti-virus software installed? If so, you need to see the documentation for that software to allow it to connect.
