If you do a search, there are a number of complaints here and on other forums about problems with voicemail and Verizon. You can access your voicemail the same way you did on an old Verizon phone, I believe one poster said *86 and then enter your PIN to retrieve voicemail. Voicemail is on the carrier end, not with Apple.
I have the same problem. Voice mails are there if I dial into Verizon as ChrisJ4203 points out so I don't think it is Verizon. However, I can't get them through the visual voice mail on my iphone 4. My problem started about 2 weeks ago.
Apple does NOT have anything to do with the voice mail system. It's a Verizon problem.
Verizon delivers the voicemail to your phone. They are the ones having the problem and have admitted to it to several customers. I have read in other forums they are not sure when it will be fixed, but they are aware of it and working on it. In the meantime, users need to access voicemail the old fashion way.
Having the same problem with my iphone, however I have Sprint. Sprint is blaming Apple.
As with Verizon, AT&T and every other carrier on the face of the planet. The problem is with them. Not with Apple. Apple does not provide voice mail service.
I have been having the same problem with my carrier, who is Sprint. There seems to be lots of finger pointing going on between Apple and Sprint. I was told by Sprint to shut the phone off and turn it back on. I did so and was able to access the voicemail that way. I have no idea who is to blame, doesn't matter to me. I'd just like to have the problem fixed. Are you still having problems?
They can point fingers all they want. It is NOT AN APPLE PROBLEM. Sprint provides voice mail services. It's Sprint's problem.
I wish they would fix it. Mine stopped working 4 weeks or more ago I use Verizon, they calim it is a new issue. I do not understand how it was working fine and then just stopped. I HATE having to call myself or call *86 to see if I have any messages.

I've been having the same problem with Verizon. They told me that they have been able to fix the problem by wiping the phone clean and reinstalling it as a new phone. They said the problem is with one of Apple's OS updates. It has affected Verizon's voicemail. I only hate to think I have to set up my phone all over again. I know I can back up and restore so I don't lose my apps etc. but I will have to reset my sounds, notifications and who knows what else that I won't know until I need to use it!
I did a network reset, THat did not work. I did a complete reset. Lost 6 contacts from the cloud. lost all my music from my iTunes. And still no Visual Voice Mail. I honestly think I will never get it back with out a new phone, which really ****** me off. I have an open for over 2 weeks trouble ticket with verizon.
Well, I followed all the recommendations from Verizon including wiping out my phone and restoring it. It did not fix the problem. They are sending me another phone. It won't be new, but probably refurbished, so who knows if this one will work. I'll have it tomorrow and I'll post if this fixed the problem.
Also, the tech support person submitted a product issue form to Apple. Whether it's an Apple or Verizon (or the phone carriers) problem should not matter to the customer. Instead of finger pointing, someone has to fix it. That's what bothers me is that no one will own up to making this problem go away. There are too many people reporting this issue for it to be ignored.
This was happening on my iPhone too, but updating to iOS 6 took care of it.
After almost 70 days, my VVM problem was diagnosed and fixed. ALthough I do nt know wht it was, an APP was interfering. I deleted all apps installed after the day I lost VVM and it came back, with all messages and notifications. The APP that the Verizon Tech suggested was NEILSON, although I don't have that installed, he said it will block VVM.
I purchased a new iPhone labor day weekend and Voice Mail would never set up on it. I took my iPhone back to the Verizon store and they did a reset and checked that the software was up to date but it still did not work. Then they told me voice mail is through Apple and that Apple is migrating to a new system region by region, and that it will "suddenly begin working" when the new system is up and running. I can't even access voice mail through *86, callers to my number get a message that my mailbox does not exist.
My voice mail is not working, Verizon is blaming problem on apple, is anyone with Verizon having voice mail problems
