How to remove my phone number from iMessage?

Hi. I recently gave up my iPhone to switch to a non-Apple device. While I had the iPhone, my phone number was used for iMessage.

Now when my friends using iPhone try to send me a message, it automatically select iMessage as Apple recognises my mobile number as an iMessage number even though I don't have an iPhone anymore. Is there any way to remove my phone number from Apple's iMessage database?

My minor son recently updated his iPhone4S with the IOS6 and used my Apple ID when he did so. He added his phone number to my Apple ID. Every text message that was sent to him was also sent to me. I couldn't figure out how to get his phone number off my Apple ID. I tried all the above suggestions, but the only one that worked was yours. Thanks! (Since then, we've set him up with his own Apple ID.)

This only began for me with iOS6. I (or thought I had) already removed the number from my old 3GS. Now my son gets my SMS messages, and I get nothing. It's not even connected to a mobile network, it's taking texts from any Apple product to my phone number and pushing them VIA wi-fi to his device, but not mine. Potential security issue here Apple?

I just want to remove my phone number from iMessage on their system. If I had the phone handy, I suppose I could just smash it. I may have to change my phone number at my own expense. I note the lack of support.

For those of you who sold your phones, I hope the new owner isn't getting your messages...like my son is for mine. I may be able to fix it when I get the phone in hand, but for now I'm screwed. I just want that number gone from my profile in the sky.

My son's non-smart-phone died a couple of weeks ago when he needed to have a phone available because he had plans with friends. We put his valid sim card into my old 3GS and turned off cellular data so he could use my old phone, which my husband now uses as an ipod touch, for a couple of days until we could get his phone swapped out for one that works.

My son's phone number has now become associated with my husband's apple ID. It doesn't show up on his list of devices if he logs in to apple. But when I text my son, messages I send now go to the 3GS that has no sim card. We have tried everything to try to disassociate my son's phone number from my husband's apple ID, but nothing is working. I have tried turning iMessages off and on on the 3GS. I have tried resetting the network settings. The only thing that allows my son to get all his text messages instead of them going to the 3GS is to turn of imessages on the 3GS. Not a huge deal since my husband isn't using the old phone for anything but to play games at home over wi-fi. But if he wanted to use the device for messaging he wouldn't be able to. Very annoying.

Hi

If you have not gotten this resolved yet. Here is what I did.

On your computer, start iMessage.

On the iMessage menu at the top left, go to Preferences -> Accounts. Deselect the

phone number or email you want to remove. You will probably need to login to your Apple ID

to verify the removal.

It should update shortly thereafter.

Good luck!

Hey just wanted everyone to know, If this helps. I got a new I phone so I gave my younger boy my old I phone 4 to use as a Ipod touch. It still had my number and all that showing up on it. I wanted that off. My phone service would not use because AT&T had disabled that phone. But my number and all that was still on my old phone. My boy downloaded Text plus so he would be able to test when near a Wi Fi area or at our house which has wireless everywhere. When he installed Text Plus it removed my old number and put in his new text number for any text sent to him, so that might work for some people! just a thought.

I just got this issue resolved. You will need to have the original iPhone to do it this way, but it will allow you to receive sms from other iPhone users.

1. Go to Settings -> Messages and turn on iMessage if its off.

2. Go to Send/Receive options

3. Tap on your icloud/itunes account email at the top of the page.

4. Tap on "Sign Out"

5. Go back to Message settings and turn off iMessage.

6. Restart your phone.

7. Have someone with an iphone send you a message. It should be working now.
