Thank you! I was about to try connecting to the iPhone from a Windows VM. This did the trick.

Problem was that I have been importing photos and videos to iPhoto since 2010, and leaving them on the phone since I had plenty of space (64gb on my current 5s)--until now. Had I selected the option in iPhoto to delete after import, and then synced back, via iTunes I would have been fine. Most likely I will do this from now on.

Amazing that there is not a more intuitive way to do this.

To permanently delete photo, video and other files on iPhone, you can use a iPhone data eraser

There are some iPhone data eraser software in the market, but few can be completely and permanently delete the data on iPhone, even if data has been cleared, some professional iPhone data recovery software can recover them later.

Please read this use guide about how to Permanently delete Photo from iPhone before Selling your iPhone. So no one can get you personal information and data from iPhone, after you sell, donate or give it away.

I'm not really sure if you have to import the Pics or not , notice that my iphone is connected on the left and i already imported the photos becasue i want them , on the left side of the work "Import to" there's a "Red No" sign .. (Command+A) OR (CTRL+A on PCs) then press on that button

After clicking on the camera icon on your screen. Click on the photo on the bottom left hand corner. Then on the top left hand corner click on 'Camera Roll'. Now at the top of my screen it says All-Photos-Videos. Click on ALL. Now at the bottom is the arrow icon to send photos to someone. I click on that SEND icon and up comes the screen that says: SELECT ITEMS. I select every MF photo I want to delete (sometimes a couple of hundred) and hit the DELETE button at the bottom right hand corner of the screen. BASTA. DONE.

Yes it was a ***** finding this out. I did it by accident once. And yes to the previous poster, you do not need to hook up to a computer to delete your photos, and, yes, Apple makes it ridiculously arcane.
