how do delete all photos on iphone 4 after you have imported them to iphoto and decide you do not want to keep them all?

iPhone 4, iOS 5.0.1

Open you Camera Roll, tap the arrow button (top right), tap all the photos you want to delete, tap the Delete button at the bottom.  (There isn't a "delete all" button.)  Photos synced to your phone from your computer have to be deleted using the sync process (by deselecting them on the Photos tab in iTunes and syncing).

Usually part of the import process with iPhoto or Aperture is that you are asked by the app after the photos have been imported if you wish to keep the photos on the iPhone or if you wish to delete them, choose your appropriate response.

Sadly there is no "delete all" option from the iPhone. I found a way using iTunes, please have a look:

easiest way for me, cuz i do it most often:

connect your iPhone to your Laptop or PC or Mac, it will detect your iPhone and opens the camera folder.

just mark all and delete from your computer. "ctrl a, del"

Thank you everyone for you help with this! I do appreciate it and was able to delete all photos. They do need a delete all right in the camera roll, that would be a nice option.

If Apple included a delete all selection for the Camera Roll that was inadvertantly selected, some of the habitual whiners that are so prevelent now would have to be committed.

Photos in the Camera Roll can and should be imported by your computer as with any other digital camera. The common methods I have used for importing photos from a digital camera or from a camera's storage card with a Mac or PC includes an option to erase the photos from the camera or storage card after the import process is complete. There is the delete all option which is not implemented until after all photos are imported so all photos can't be deleted at once by accident or before the import.

i figured it out, it works on the iphone 2G but i think it will work for the newer iphones too.

    This is what i did

-connected my iphone to my mac

    -open preview

    -file > import from iphone

-command + A to select all photos

-hit the delete symbol on the bottom

then it just deleted all photos that were taken from my camera roll.

    that's the best solution yet.

That is no different than using iPhoto, Aperture, as already suggested, or even Image Capture.

iPhoto doesn't seem to have a way to delete photos except immediately after importing them into your iPhoto library.  I'm sure Aperture can do it, but not everyone has that app.

Image Capture seems like the best way, but it is a more obscure app than Preview.

Which is the same as the explanation from tandoantd about Preview.

Aperture works the same as iPhoto.

Thanks so much that is the easiest way cause when I download the picture to iPhoto I am never ready to delete them !

    Thanks again !

For those of you who cant seem to get the select and slide option to work... try these options...

    connect your idevice

    open preview

select File > Import from (your Idevice name)

then select all and choose the red circular symbol at the bottom

this will delete all your photos and videos in one go

    connect idevice

    open My Computer

    find your connected it

go through to view all pics and vids

    select all and then delete.

this will delete all in one go.

Your response does not answer the question.  He's NOT talking about the camera roll.
