Writing papers with an Ipad

Hello,

So I recently crashed my laptop and I need a laptop or tablet for college. I thought about getting a Macbook but don't think that its worth spending the cash because the IPad does everything I need (Internet and papers) and its cheaper.

The only thing that has me worried is not having a USB port and also the app to use for writing papers. I always use a USB so is there a way I can still use it and also is there a Microsoft word app or something like it that will be a reliable source to use?

Thanks.

There are a number of apps that support word documents, but no actual Word app itself as Microsoft have never created one e.g. Apple's Pages app, and from third-parties apps such as Documents To Go and QuickOffice HD. If you would be doing a lot of writing then you'd need an external keyboard, the screen isn't ideal for extensive typing (it takes up a fair amount of the screen for a start).

As you say there is no USB port, but you can use iCloud, Dropbox etc to store documents externally, depending on which app that you'd get and what it supports
