Captive Network Assistant app inhibits browser to show login page of University wifi. Help!

Hi all,

Its been one month I purchased Macbook pro Lion. Since the first day, I am having trouble logging in University wifi on Safari. I searched how to solve this issue, found out that Lion has "Captive Network Assistant app" which is probably inhibiting the browser to show up login page of University wifi.

So since I still have tech support by phone, I made multiple calls to "Apple Geniuses". they, first did not believe its "their" Captive network assistant app is prohibiting from logging in on University wifi.

I do not understand these "Apple Geniuses" when I brought to their attention and ask for help, they don't have any solution for it. I recently changed from PC to Mac, I can guarantee that "Apple tech support" is not up to par to Microsoft support system.

I apologize for my anger, its that I can not use "Mail, itunes and Safari" when I am at school. Sole purpose of buying this Mac is to use in the school.

I would really appreciate your suggestions and help.

Thanks.

Having the same problem all the time. Typically, MacBook connects to known network but does not open login page . Pop up blocker is NOT active (at least no checkmark in Safari settings).

Have not found any way to resolve this. Usually have to use my phone as personal hotspot. Last month reached maximum data and had to buy more. So annoying!!!

Here is the update of my problem,

I installed Vuze software to download stuff from internet at home.

Unfortunately it was open when I came to University.

WHen I open my laptop, it showed for the first time my Univeristy wifi certificate in a pop up window and there were options like "always trust" and "don't trust". I selected always trust option and turned off vuze. After that everytime I opened the safari, it will bring the login page of my University wifi and once I log in, all other apps like mail, itune can access internet without any trouble.

One more thing I did is that I unselected "pop-up block windows" under the safari menu.

I also kept my macbook updated all the time.

I still don't know which one solved my problem, Vuze software, unselecting the pop-up block windows or regular Mac updates.

Please share your experiences.

Thanks
