How do I delete dead space at end of track?

I am new to GarageBand. I am using it to transfer my old LPs to my computer so I can transfer them to CDs.

I record a song from my stereo and even though I push "record" to stop recording, the red line often keeps moving until I push play to stop it. How do you get rid of that extra dead space after the song?

I selected that region and hit "delete" but the delete function does not work. Nothing happens. I tried using the "cut" function but the region I cut is held in memory, so if I quit and reopen the song, that extra space is still there. If I cut just the part of the track without that dead space and paste it in to a new project, the space at the end is still there in the new project even though I didn't select that part of the recording.

I removed GarageBand (with Apple's tech support help), reinstalled it, updated it (due to a problem that turned out to be"operator error") and deleting part of a track is still a problem.

Hi Earl,

If I'm understanding correctly, there is no sound at the end of your track. If the region (the colored section that has your sound waves or midi info in it- I think this region is orange or purple for incoming audio) is extended past your song, find the end of the song, click on the region so the color is more 'vibrant,' put the red line (playhead) where you want the song playback to stop, then hit the 'APPLE' key and the 'T' at the same time. That will split the region into two regions. Click on the gray area of the Region area to un-select the regions, then click on the new region (after your song) that you created and hit the 'DELETE' key. Now scroll the screen all the way to right as far as it will go. You should see a little purple triangle in the time ruler at the top of the window. Click and drag that arrow to the end of your song. SAVE. That is now the new end of your song. Go to the tollbar and select Share, Export to iTunes.

Should work how you want it to.
