Hi, i recently bought an Ipad2. For some reason the sound disapeared.. It occasionally makes a "static" sound when i lock or unlock it. Same thing when i use the earbuds. Any idea of what might be causing this "problem"? I suspect hardware failure. I've rebooted, reset, restored etc.. still, no sound..

I just had the same issue. Headphone jack got wet. I put a little cotton in the hole and dried it out. Sound came back after I worked the hole with my headphones twice.
Cleaned the port with a tooth pick. Took only a few seconds, works great. I sound have thought of this myself, because it works on my kids leapster. thank you
Did you ever figure out your sound problem? I have the same exact problem and so far none of the responses have helped. The volume is on the slider when I have headphones plugged in but they disappear as soon as I unplug them. Also, the volume in the headphones is not loud. Thanks
I did figure out my sound problem. I went to the Genius Bar at the Apple Store in Costa Mesa, CA and demonstrated the issue. They immediately gave me a new iPad 2 and took the failing unit away for a post mortem autopsy.
With the new unit I have had zero issues. Gotta love the service at the Genius Bar!
