Icon Preview is not shown for mp3 files in finder

Helloto all people,

I had the same problem on my iMac and on my Macbook Pro after update to Mountain Lion. Then on my Macbook Pro, I formatted my disk and I do a clean (new) installation. The problem stay, no icon preview for mp3 and midifiles. Selected the file and typing cmd-y give the preview. I hope Apple can find a solution for this because I use many mp3 and midifile, and I prefer the preview from Snow Leopard. I hope you understand all my words, because my native language is french and my english very bad. Nice week-end for all.

I'm having the same problem and it's driving me nuts. I ran a Verify Disk Permissions and found that those for Quick Look were incorrect so I ran a repair. With my fingers crossed I rebooted and no luck. The album artwork is still not showing up for mp3s in the Finder. I hope I can find a fix soon.

Good news: I found a solution. Kind of bad news: it's an extremely awkward behaviour –*but at least it works.

Start iTunes, remove all your voice memos from your library (back them up if you need them), quit iTunes. Restart Finder. Done. I hope that helps!

Since I am desperate, I'll give it a try and report back…

You're a saint! Deleting my voice memos after repairing my disc permissions did the trick!

It worked for me too. That was driving me crazy so I'm glad that there's a fix.

Well, unfortunately for me this is not the solution of the problem. I don't have Voice Memos. I searched for such media with Smart Playlist - none. In my Media Folders is just Music, nothing else.

I can report, that QuickLook works in my second user account, strange!?

Sorry it took me so long to report back to you. I tried your method exactly. I also ran disk permissions and restarted the computer. It half-worked for my problem. Now, when my screensaver activates, I no longer see the "No Album Artwork" message, but my Finder still refuses to show the icon preview for mp3 files. So, I have no idea why in the world removing the Voice Memos worked for my screensaver, but I'm still frustrated with the stupid icon preview.

I have this exact problem on my iMac 10.6.8, but not on my MacBook 10.7.5.

It is extremely annoying because I enjoyed using the little play button that would appear when I hovered my cursor over the audio file icons. Now, same as you, the audio icons dispay the iTunes logo with "mp3" written below the icon (like in the attached picture). There is no album art, and no play button appears when I hover the cursor over the file.

R-C-R is right. I had the same problem with mine. I noticed it after I hooked up a second display. A lot of my preferences changed without me knowing. Just right-click on any mp3 file, click Show View Options, and change your icon size to at least 64X64. This solved it for me.

I'm afraid you aren't grasping the terminology here. Look up at writingfromliverpool's picture. This isn't just a simple settings issue where something in preferences changed. This is a glitch that will not show the album art preview in Finder. It will show the preview in "info," but it will not showing anything no matter how large you make your icons.

Right click>show view options>

tick show icon, always open in icon view, browse in icon view and show icon preview. See if this helps.

Dude, you have GOT to be kidding me. Read the whole thread before you post. This has already been suggested and gone over many times.

Just giving my input as to how I got round the problem Dirty Ketchup.

By ticking ALL 3 boxes ... Idon't recall anyone mentioning ticking browse in icon and always open in icon view.

If they did I apologise for missing this.

I HAVE FINALLY FOUND THE ANSWER!!!!

its not an issue with 10.8 or 10.9,

steps.. go to any folder with mp3 icons

click and control on any space within the folder

click "show view options"

change the icon size to min of 64x64

click "use as defaults" at the bottom

there you go🙂
