battery indicator always says 50%

Recently had to wipe hd and reisnstall operating system because of bad permissions and disk errors. Yes I tried fixing them first. Been a mac user for over 20 years so please keep that in mind before responding.

Everything is working fine except... battery indicator stays at 50% and never warns me before shutting down...

Other articles say my battery is junk, but how does a system reinstall wreck a battery. I think its a glitch with the software, bad preferences or something.

Anyone have experience with this? Running os 10.6.8 on 2.26 GHz intel core Duo macbook pro.

I miss the old days when I could trouble shoot anything by trashing preferences!

Its just like cars and refridgerators... 25 years ago things were built to be fixed, now they are built to be thrown away 😟

MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.6.8), intel core duo

The battery report you post indicates that the battery is charged to 46.6%, or 47% as the system will roung off. Other battery information is normal, voltage is where it should be, in the 12 to 12.5 volts range.

A word about "conditioning" that does not condition the battery...the procedure of discharging to shutoff and then recharging is done to condition the charge reporting circuitry builtin to Lithium-Ion batteries. Not condition the battery itself. That procedure is not good to follow on a regular basis as it will significantly shorten the life of a Lithium-Ion battery.

Data published by the independent group Battery University shows that deep discharging and charging will reduce the life of the battery to about 10% of the expected normal life. The optimum discharge/charge behavior is to only discharge to 50% and then recharge, number of charge cycles the battery will handle is ten times that of the deep discharge pattern.

Your battery shows 425 charge cycles, that is about the life of a battery that has been subjected to deep discharging history. And about half the life projected by Apple for the batteries they are now installing.
