Transfer purchases to another ID

If you go to the App Store, go to updates, then tap on the purchase section you can download purchases for free from there and see all of the ones that were on the other device. Just make sure you are signed in as that apple id.

in this situastion you can buy and app on ure device and acount and send it as gift to hers 🙂

I have a similar issue and hope someone can help. My son got his first ipod years ago when he was very young. We set up an itunes account and one apple id. Our younger son now has an itouch, the older one has an iphone and I have an ipad, all tied to the original apple id. If I set up a new apple id for my older son using the same credit card, will he lose access to all the music and apps he has bought over the years? That is what it sounds like, which is outrageous. Alternatively, can I set up "sub-accounts" for each child under 1 apple id? They keep getting gift cards and I would like to separate their funds. Thanks for any help.

What you are failing to comprehend is that Apple has no way of knowing your intentions when you use one Apple ID for multiple members of your family. The license for the content bought with that Apple ID is solely for that Apple ID and it is not transferable to another Apple ID and never has been. And there is no legal way to divide the content up and shuffle it off to other Apple IDs. Yes, you can create new individual Apple IDs for your sons and they can continue to use the content bought for/by them with the original Apple ID and content from the original Apple ID and the new individual Apple ID can be co-mingled on each of the boy's individual iOS devices. But sometime in the future, when they are adults no longer living in your household, both of them can't legally take any of the content with them, whomever ends up with the original Apple ID is the sole owner of the content bought with that Apple ID.

I have 2 apple IDs. The one I started back in 2005 with my first iPod and when I got an iPhone last year I created a new one with an icloud account. The reason for creating the new one, didn't know I couldn't transfer and I don't use the old email address much anymore.

I own the rights to all the content.

I have recently start up iMatch. The song that I purchased with my old Apple ID have been removed. I have all the passwords and log in for both accounts. Is there a way to bring my Old ID's content into iMatch with this my current account.

No. Like purchased content, iTunes Match is specific to the AppleID it was created for.

Here is another twist...I set up my Apple ID on my iPad when all I had was a company issued phone. Now I have my personal iPhone and I want to set up my own iPad to sync with my own personal Apple ID. I can't do that?

Your Apple ID is separate from your device. Why did you set up a second Apple ID? You can - and should have - used the same Apple ID and changed the contact to your personal email address.

Sorry, I don't understand what having a company owned phone and a persnal iPad have to do with what Apple ID that you used? Can you explain what you did in detail?

I too want to be able to do this as I have an Ipad2 I want keep all the games I have bought for my son on whilst I migrate my usage of the Pad onto a new retina (ipad4) device. I don't want to have to setup a new account for my device as I want access to all my old productivity apps etc. and I don't want to have my old pad tied to my previous payment details. I just want to move all the games etc. onto "his" ipad/ID whilst maintaining the ability to prevent purchases and gatekeep any content etc.

I find it rediculous that I can't move content I have bought as I see fit, or limit synchronisation of apps by device. (I'm happy to keep the same ID on both devices as long as I can limit what is synched to each device)...

Content is tied to the Apple ID that bought it. This has always been the case since the inception of the iTunes Store and Apple ID's.

I'm not entirely sure why anybody thinks buying a new device means you need a new Apple ID.

When you set up the new device you can use the same Apple ID to set it up and keep all your purchases intact.

You don't have to do any of that.

You can keep your old ID, and update its payment details and email address as you see necessary.

You absolutely do not need to create a new one. Nor should you ever want to create a new Apple ID just for a new Device.

Go to Appleid.Apple.com and you can manage your Apple ID there. Change its payment details to whatever you want, update its email address if required etc...

Then use that same Apple ID to setup the new iPad Retina and you'll keep all your purchased content.

What about users, like me, that has had an Apple ID and have purchased hundreds of apps over the years - and then all of a sudden iCloud Apple ID's were brought to life just last year. There's no way to transfer your old Apple ID purchases (which was a Gmail email address) to an iCloud email address/Apple ID account? That's complete bull IMO, as there's a ton of benefits to the introduction to iCloud - so why not have the option to migrate over your stuff from your old Apple ID to iCloud to keep iCloud unified as one. So now to reap the benefits of iCloud I have to have two separate email addresses & passwords to maintain all of my stuff?

Somebody correct me if I'm wrong.

Your post doesn't make a lot of sense. I've had the same AppleID since they were instituted. iCloud didn't require changing it. I used to use an Earthlink address but when I switched over to Gmail, I updated my AppleID. I use that AppleID for iCloud, the iTunes Store, App Store, iMessage, Facetime, anything requiring an AppleID. I don't understand why you created a second ID.
