When iCloud was introduced I was using my Gmail address for the iCloud stuff, but I'm intrigued by the iCloud address itself as of recently - so that's what I was hoping I'd be able to do. So I just had to create an iCloud email address from my phone, wipe the Gmail iCloud stuff from my phone, fired in the iCloud.com address in to replace it - keeping the unfortunate Gmail address as my iTunes Store ID. *insert sad face*

I have an Apple ID, which is my Gmail address. When iCloud was introduced, I continued to use that as my Apple ID. I have an icloud.com email address associated with that Apple ID. But the iCloud email address is not used as the ID itself. It sounds as if you misunderstood when you iCloud was introduced and inadvertently set up a second Apple ID, though it was not, in fact, required. However, it is all water under the bridge as no, you can't transfer purchases between the two Apple IDs you now have.

Best of luck.

This is what I'm doing as well. My real Apple ID is still my Gmail address. But I've moved my iCloud stuff over to the new iCloud address. I was just hoping that we were able to create an iCloud email address without actually signing up for a new Apple ID, that way we could of just made iCloud email address and changed the original ID's email address to that - that way all of our purchases are in tact. But yeah, that's what I'm doing. Gmail ID, iCloud addy for iCloud stuff (notes, mail, contacts, etc etc). Until Apple decides to not be dumb and find a solution to transfers.

Yes, you can. I did. I explained that to you already.

I apologize, I guess I just don't seem to be understanding what you did and how you did it. The only way it would allow me to create an iCloud email address was through Settings/Mail/Add Account, that's the only place I could find that allows to create an iCloud email address - and to do so it forces you to create an Apple ID along with it. iCloud's website certainly doesn't allow you to create an email address either. Ontop of that, just going into the management of my Apple ID will not allow me to type in @iCloud.com - I could use @anything else but iCloud, anything with @iCloud pops up with a red error saying it's not allowed. So what exactly did you do? I'm not quite understanding. Thank you.

So I suppose that if I wished to simply swap to a NEW Apple ID account that I will NOT share with anyone else (just like how I don't share mine with anyone else either currently) because my original ID has become a source of troubles and issues and problems with payment verification and billing, and take all the apps (in which I've invested a QUITE BIG amount of money) with me, it would be impossible!?

That...is rip off people, RIP-OFF!!

As has been noted serveral times in this thread, yes, it's impossible. Apps are forever tied to the Apple ID under which they were purchased.

Frankly, the "fix it or I'm going to Android" line gets really tiring after a while. And it's been going on for a long, long time. It usually peaks after the release of a new iOS version but it more or less constant. And it is usually by first-timers or at least those will very little prior activity in the forum.

Some (perhaps many) of these people are simply trolls. Others are people who simply don't yet understand forum etiquette and haven't read the T&C's that govern these forums. But most of these posts simply polute the forums which are supposed to be focused on technical questions and answers. I write this knowing full well that this response is as much a problem, but you asked. :-) If people want to vent or simply propose an opinion or say "me too", they should get a blog, or write a letter to an editor, or best of all - send Apple direct feedback. This is where it will have impact. The forums are simply not the place to do it and because of this, so much of what is written here is useless to people looking for help.

So to answer your question, perhaps sarcasm wasn't necessary but I would ask you, what purpose does your comment serve? Did it help to get people interested in helping you find a solution to your problem - the reason you came here in the first place? Nope? Does is help future visitors to this post find the solution? Nope. Did you truly expect anyone here to care if you went to Android? I don't think you did anyway, but you probably didn't expect push back either.

We are all just users - no real Apple presence here - though they do show up once in a great while. The point it, the people who care enough to do user support in their free time obviously have a passion for Apple products and don't like to hear it disparraged. We know there are issues which is why we are here to help. But come on. Do you walk in to a car dealer and immediately start making threats that if they don't fix a problem you are going to go buy a different brand? No. So why do it here when it helps no one?

I certainly don't have the experience other long-timers here have so I'm sure they have seen and heard it all, and many more times than I have - which may be why some of them are the most vocal and show the least amount of patience. I see it from both sides, but lean towards those who find it obnoxious and tiring.

I wouldn't take too much offense to it. But hopefully, this will help you to understand "the other side". And the forums are supposed to be about helping each other, right?

Ok, so all that said, can we please just kill this thread. The question has been answered a million times over and it isn't likely going to change any time soon.! :-)

Dear god, someone just took this to a whole different level x.x

I don't know who did, but I never mentioned Android as far as I remember, I did spend a whole weekend talking to an Apple support person, checking EVERY detail possible before FINALLY finding a solution to my problem and it was certainly not through here, I just posted a comment and wow, didn't it turn big?? Why? I have NO idea. I am by NOOO means a first-timer in anything Apple-related, nor do I complain like crazy after every iOS update (or any update in that case) or every time an app crashes or gets updated or freezes and so on.

Please, not everyone out here is just looking for a 'nice' place to complain, some of us ARE interested in the posts even if they are repetitive and 'obnoxious and tiring', once in a while you DO find out that there are other ones that have already answered your question...and the fact that neither the questions nor the answers change doesn't mean they'll simply stop popping up.

So don't lecture me.

First, I don't think I took anything to a whole different level. Maybe I'm wrong, but I thought my response was pretty balanced void of emotion. I don't get wrapped up in the hysterics on either side and I think my history here shows that. I was simply explaining why you might get the reaction you did.

Some responses to your comments:

but I never mentioned Android as far as I remember

No, but you did say you were going to leave Apple. Please excuse my presumption but Android is the most common target of a defection mentioned here. If I was mistaken, I'm sorry. In any case your post did fit the mold.

You created your forum account yesterday. I wouldn't exactly say that you have given the community a chance to try to help you. Looks around now that your here and I think you will find there is a lot of good work being done.

Maybe I wasn't clear so your misinterpretaion may be my fault, butI wasn't referring to your experience with Apple. For that matter, I wasn't even referring to you specifically. I was talking about first-time forum users. Your account was created the day of your post and you have contributed only to this thread. In that sense then, you are a first-timer.

nor do I complain like crazy after every iOS update (or any update in that case) or every time an app crashes or gets updated or freezes and so on.

Again, I didn't address you directly. You seem to be taking my general remarks personally and they were certainly not intended that way.

neither the questions nor the answers change doesn't mean they'll simply stop popping up.

I think you've missed that point. No one complains about the same questions popping up. Anyone who has spent any time here providing support can tell you they have answered the same simple questions dozens or maybe even hundreds of times without blinking an eye. I presume most of us are here because we like to help.

So don't lecture me.

Sorry you took it that way. Again, I don't think my tone was accusatory but if it was, I apologize. It wasn't intended that way.
