Unable to Check for Update

Could this be due to the carrier? I am with Bell and have this issue however a friend on Telus didn't have any issue what so ever! In fact, didn't even know about the update until I mentioned it, went to software update and bam right away it worked. I stood there in disbelief...this is BS I don't feel I should have to jump through all the hoops mentioned above. Up until now I've never had any issue with any of my devices (iPad 2 32gig wifi only updated no problem and Apple TV) I pay a premium to not have these problems. If I wanted to back up, erase, update, erase again then restore I would have purchased an Android or Blackberry.

Not sure it's a carrier issue tbh, as I don't thik changing the DNS settings would have solved the problem for as many people as it has (me included - it's taken a while, but both iPhone & iPad are now updated 😉). More likely to be wifi/internet connection settings related, I suspect.

Ive just found this after being unable to up-date through both Itunes on my macbook pro and my Ipad 2.

I use a tethered connection rather than having a fixed broadband.

I'm in the UK.... after the suggestion to change the DNS server I changed it in my connection and its working fine now... no problems at all...

Changing DNS worked on my iPad 2 directly, but on my iPhone 4S I wiped my iPhone and reset it as a new device as indicated but I also changed DNS after wipe and finally got it to work 😀 Hope this would be helpful to others

I also had to completely reset AND THEN also change my DNS. It said it would take 5 hours at first, but it then corrected itself. It's still updating, however. It says 2 minutes...we'll see. 😐

For anyone interested, the whole process of resetting/installing/restoring took about 1 hour on my iPhone 4S.

Changing DNS to 8.8.8.8 worked fine for my iPad2 running 5.0.1. Thanks for the suggestion.

Changing DNS to 8.8.8.8 worked fine for my iPad 2 but the problem remains for my iPhone and my Apple TV2 too.!

Also im having problem to download manually any kind of ipsw. because all the links seem to be broken ! (they are definately not)

i have an airport express but still haven't find a solution...

So,

i changed the DNS in my airport express and although the iPhone couldn't update via wifi, when i connected the device to the mac, it's being updated as the moment we speak. This was not possible without changing the DNS because i ve had also an error with the update via iTunes.

Changing the DNS worked on my wife's iPhone 4s and my 1st Gen iPad. It however did not work in my iPhone 4s. Going to try hooking it to my computer and try that before erasing the phone.

Resetting everything and changing my DNS did the trick for my iPhone 4s. No just need all of my apps and everything to down load. The only thing that didn't back up were the movies.

I changed my DNS as well and now the update is working perfectly!! Thanks for the info. I knew it was my internet at my house since it worked fine at my office. Thanks a million!! Now I can get some sleep..lol

I couldn't update using WIFI on the phone or iTunes. Changing the DNS settings worked straight away for me.🙂
