Hi, folks!
Checking in. I have just transferred over my unlimited plan to my new iPad, which arrived at the office just in time for lunch. Here's what happened--and I feel that it's very important to share this because I haven't seen anyone actually speak up after receiving their new iPad and say if it was truly possible or what the process was.
1) I turned my old iPad off completely, just in case. (I'd done some looking around online and read that it's a good idea to completely turn off the old iPad. I don't know if it's true, but it wouldn't do any harm to do it, I figured.)
2) On my office computer, I logged into att.com/ipadlanding.
3) I called 800-331-0500 and went through a voice response menu of some kind. (I don't remember everything I chose, but I definitely chose "0" so I could speak to a live person.) I explained that I wanted to transfer my service on my old iPad to my new iPad.
4) After some checking, the first rep I spoke to said that she needed to transfer me over to the...session-to-session iPad data...group, or something like that, so I got transferred.
5) After I was transferred to that other department, I was given a menu with two options: questions about billing and technical questions. I chose the latter.
6) The next rep I spoke to had verified some info with me, then told me to go to att.com/ipadlanding. I told her I'd just done it, and I let her walk me through the process of changing the IMEI and ICCID info associated with my account.
7) Next, she said we'd wait until the system was done updating my info. She told me to let her know when it was done updating, but I didn't get any notice--through AT&T or my new iPad. But I was able to verify that my account is now unlimited LTE. My subscription specifically says it's LTE now.
8) The rep said that's fine--and the next thing we should do is turn the iPad off and on. And voila...I have unlimited LTE service now. 😀
I strongly feel that it'd be a wise idea to call AT&T and let them walk you through the process of going to att.com/ipadlanding, just so they know what you're up to. (I've only got anecdotal evidence for this, based on what I've seen online when I googled in "iPad 4G unlimited plan," but it looks like other people tried to change their iPad info online without calling AT&T first and got themselves into trouble of some kind.)
One other thing: The rep also told me that if I'd be giving the old iPad to someone else, then they'd have to get a new SIM card because the old one is now "burned." I'm guessing that means it'll be completely unusuable and the new owner of the iPad will have to pony up the cash for a new SIM card.
