Do iPad 2 cases fit the " new " iPad?

I seem to recall that the rear camera lense may be a different configuration. Not sure if the difference will matter (or if I'm correct about that).

The camera on the New iPad is definitely a new configuration in the sense that it has new components (lenses, sensors, filters, etc). However, I believe the position of the camera on the housing of the New iPad is the same as the iPad 2.

But even changing by a millimeter could be the difference for a hard-factor case.

I was under the impression that the diameter for the lens port may be slightly larger. Not certain about that by any means. Since I'm replacing an original iPad when I buy the new one, it's beside the point for me. I already know my existing case will not work. I'll just have to care until I find the right case.

I ordered a case yesterday that is "supposed" to fit the new iPad. I figured if it doesn't, then I'll just send it back and keep looking.............but at least I will have something to use when the iPad gets here. I live on the beach in FL and it's Spring Break right now, so going out shopping and fighting Spring Breakers is just not something I wanted to do!!

thickness is the difference, I think the back camera hole may also be slightly different.

However there are cases that fit the new iPad (ipad 3 or 3rd generation ipad whatever you call it) and it fits the iPad 2 as well.

Unless the case was a very tight fit for the iPad 2 it should work with the new iPad. the difference in thickness is only about .6 mm. Most makers are now changing their listings to indicate that the cover fits both the iPad 2 and new iPad. Just be sure of the return policy if that turns out not to be true.

the same question bugs me, as I need to have something for Friday when my new iPad arrives, so I decided to get some cheap solution, like this one. Just $6 for pre-order. It clearly says it's for iPad 3 - the new iPad, so if it doesn't fit. I will return it.

Ok people.. Mine has just arrived..

I am gutted to report that the thickness totally prevents me from using my Logitech fold up keyboard. I had a hunch it would as even with a film protector, it made the ipad2 very tight. This additional thickness is beyond the point of forcing it in.

Also in related news, the weight WAS noticeable. I didn't think it would be but it sure feels a lot heavier

I have picked mine up as well and I'm fairly disappointed. The new iPad is great for what it is. I can notice a crisp clean screen compared to the 2. The camera does take better pictures. It is very noticeably heavier.(but still fairly light.) the main reason I'm disappointed is that they've changed something with the smart cover feature. My iPad 2 case from brookstone(very good quality case $50) the iPad fits in perfectly as it just slides in the cameras line up good the speaker has an opening as well as everything else, and yet it will not work. And yes i have checked the options to see if it is enabled and it is turned on. If this is a feature you've learned to love then be careful on the cases you purchase.

the resolution is a huge difference, as well as the processor.. 😉

The weight is different as well. I have both here with me. The new one is heavier and the same smart case for my ipad2 is not working for my new ipad3/hd

I got my new iPad this morning and I bought an iPad 2 Goji snap case as they said that all iPad 2 cases fit the new iPad but when I got it home it does not fit so beware when buying cases. I will be returning mine tomorrow. :-(

No, I know all about the specs and the iPad 3rd gen is much better, but I was referring to the part where it says,

"Select a new iPad" "Select an iPad 2" 😉 😉 😉
