Buying a Apple Refurbished Macbook Air

I am considering buying a refurbished macbook air from apple directly and am wondering if this would be a good idea, i would save nearly $300 dollars. I am wondering though if it is going to hurt my resale value in the future substantially, and if it can be returned. Also when you check your warranty on product through apple will it say refurbished right their or will their be no signs that it has been refurbished. And if any of you have purchased products refurbished with apple especially macbooks do they show any cosmetic signs of wear.

Hi there,

It won't say refurbnished in the information about warranty. However refurbnished product will arrive without original box.

Yes, it can be returned, I believe time depends on country (15 days in Ireland), just like brand new macbook.

It's a great idea, for the past 2-3 years I bough dozen of refurbnished macbooks. None of them had any sign of ever being used, battery was always at it's first cycle. Either luck or Apple salvages insides of refurbs and provides them with new batteries, cases and keyboards...

I remember however buying plastic macbook back in 2008 refurb, which case was claerly scratched in many places, as if it was being used for a while. Nothing ever since though.

I'd go for it- they are great value, and you still have option of return. You get full 1 year warranty so you've got nothing to loose.

Refurbished items from Apple usually have a slightly different model number so that they can be identified as refurb products, for those that know what they are looking for. They are also packed in plain boxes. In all other respects however, including returns policy and warranty, they are the same as a new item.

I have purchased a number of refurbished Macs from Apple and have never experienced a problem - or a loss of resale value! The refurb store is a good way of getting an Apple product that perhaps otherwise you couldn't quite afford.

I just got my refurbed MacBook Air about 3 weeks ago. I couldn't be happier with mine. It is indistinguishable from new.Apple refurbs never show signs of wear as anything that is worn is replaced. Buying refurbed meant I felt I could justify buying the faster processor and larger drive. Resale value isn't an issue for me as I rarely sell my old equipment.

I've bought refurbed products from Apple for years and highly recommend them. As others have said, refurbs come in plain brown boxes so you don't get the fancy unboxing experience. Apple stands behind its refurbs by offering the same 12 month warranty and offers the extended AppleCare warranty at the same price one would pay for a new Mac. That speaks highly to the quality of the refurbs. I've always priced my used refurbs as I would had I bought it new and I've never had to drop the price I've asked. Not only that, I've never listed one longer than 2 weeks.
