Apple TV television shows out of order?

I've just upgraded to IOS 5.0 on one of my apple tv's 2nd generation and now my tv shows are out of order. I generally keep it on "Unwatched" and the seasons for the shows stay together in alphabetical order, making it easier to find the shows I want to watch. Since the upgrade though, the seasons are still together but out of order alphabetically.

Is anyone else experiencing this? Most of my shows are ripped or recorded and I add tags with iVL.

I'm experiencing the same problem here. Double-checked to make sure I wasn't looking at shows By Date, but it continues to display shows By Date added to iTunes library. Culprit could possibly be iTunes (since that upgraded at the same time, and it's sorting by a date added to iTunes value) or more likely the AppleTV firmware update.

It's worth noting that if you use the Apple Remote app for iOS (on either iPhone or iPad), shows appear in the correct order.

The listing BUG definitely lies with iTunes 10.6, re-install 10.5.3 and you'll get your list back in order again, even if your Apple TV2 has been updated to 5.0 - Don't spend hours re-importing your Media, it won't help... (See Update below)

From both a cosmetic and ease of use view (ATV5 is horrible) if you can, stay at 4.4.4 as long as you can.

If your one of those many people that are experiencing constant drop outs now while playing from your own Library, just quitting iTunes and restarting it seems to clear the problem for a while at least.

(I use Remote HD (great software) to view the comp screen from my chair to do this as comp is upstairs))

I have also tried the 'set AppleTV2 clock to manual' idea and that has also helped reduce the number of iTunes Library disconnections temporarily.

NB: If you have two Libraries available in the 'Computer' listing if you lose one the other will stay, so that points to a Bonjour error between iTunes and AppleTV2, I've tried setting IP to manual as well and that doesn't seem to solve the problem and downgrading the firmware of Time Capsule/Airport Utility form 7.6.1 back to 7.5.2 loses some functionality.

I don't recall a single problem using the iTunes 10.5.3, AppleTV2 4.4.4 and Airport Utility 7.5.2 Combination on OS 10.6.8.

...Will teach me to upgrade within 6 months of a release!

Update: Although re-installing iTunes 10.5.3 fixed the 'Listings out of order' problem, the disconnections kept happening even after setting the clock to manual etc.

After noticing that when creating a 'New User' on a seperate comp allowed me to play anything, even 1080p, without any droputs, I eventually deleated all the Library files that I had restored using Time Machine and re-built the Library, now I have TV Shows and Movies in order and No drop outs.

I didn't upgrade my AppleTV2 for this very reason. Much preferred teh older style (in fact ATV1 3.02 is my favourite layout).

Unfortunately it seems to have now done so automatically or perhaps someone inadvertently did so when I wasn't around.

I knew exactly where things were before, now it's a case of scrolling and panning. Icons should in theory be better but I don't find that to be the case myself, it just looks cluttered with things I don't/won't use. Maybe if customisation comes onboard it will be better. I also think it uses too much screen real estate at the expense of space for the icons below until you scroll down.

You'll nver please everyone all the time though and I dare say I'll get used to it.

Without wanting to sound ageist I think it will be less intuitive to older family members who are less used to iOS - a column textually labelled movies or TV Shows is more intuitive than a big icon.

Before posting comments such as: "I've discovered the problem is coming from iTunes" or "I have a theory...new shows are being added to the bottom of the list," please read the previous posts in this thread. You are simply restating what everyone who has been following the thread already knows and not really adding anything to the discussion.

And have a nice day. 🙂

can anyone confirm that the shows out of order problem exists for ATV3 and/or a library that only contains shows downloaded from itunes store?

i have ATV2 and most of my shows have been ripped from DVDs. however, there are many shows purchased from itunes as well that are mixed just the same, but i haven't seen any clarifications from posts as to whether the problem still exists on the ATV3 or if they seem the same issues with a library that's strictly shows purchased from itunes.

It appears that some folks have figured this out a different way, but this is my experience. Same symptoms...TV shows on Apple TV 2 are out of order, or in some random order that makes no logical sense. Not the case with our Apple TV 1, so it was not an iTunes issue. Apple TV 2 did not offer a software update.

Yesterday evening (1 April) I purchased OSX Lion. I had unplugged our Apple TV 2 and disconnected other items from the router, to devote all resources to that Lion download.

Today, 2 April, I plugged in the Apple TV 2, and the TV Shows (for the first time since early March) are in Alphabetical order. My theory, then, is that someone at Apple missed this little nugget when they released OSX Lion. I'll give you that it's iTunes related, because the latest version of iTunes was designed for Lion.

Hope this helps! Although, you shouldn't have to spend $29.99 in order to alphabetize your TV shows. :-D
