iOS 5.1 - Still No Genius Mixes

I see that the Genius has returned on iPhone for iTunes Match users who have upgraded to iOS 5.1. - Great.

Genius Mixes aren't showing up on my iPhone though, despite being explicitly mentioned in the iOS 5.1 release notes. I've tried updating iTunes Match and iTunes Genius via iTunes 6 and re-syncing my iPhone, but Genius Mixes stubbornly refuse to join the party.

Anything else I can try?

I have been speaking to a senior tech support person at Apple about this. He spoke with an engineer and just today told me to go to the store menu in iTunes and do Update iTunes Match. Then I turned it off on my iPad and restarted my iPad and turned match back on and now I have all my Genius mixes and can create a playlist from iCloud. I know this did not work before because I had tried it as well.

I did that at least half a dozen times over a several days with no effect before it finally "worked" (or genius just coincidentally started working).

So there was definitely a problem at their end, which they are stalwartly refusing to acknowledge. It's possible, however, that once they do fix it at their end, updated match can speed the process of the fix migrating to your device, but based on other reports, it was going to start working anyway pretty soon.

There's no way Apple was uaware of this. If they had simply issued a statement indicating there was a known problem and they were working on it, everyone would have just chilled until it started working, instead of wasting a lot of time with voodoo fixes.

It's just started working for me (Mixes and playlists) this evening after I switched Match off and then back on again (again), and I'm in the UK, so they've started bringing it out in Europe by the looks of it. Only had it for a few minutes, but it's increadibly laggy. Hope it sorts itself out, I'd hate for the iPhone 4 to become bricked so soon. (this isn't the only problem I've been having since ios5 came out).

EDIT: Yea, it's running smoothely now, must have been prepairing it as I was playing with it. Best of luck to everyone else.

Woo-HOO! Finally working for me! Here's what I did:

- On Mac iTunes, Updated Genius, then Updated iTunes Match

- On iPhone, turned off Match, restarted iPhone, turned Match back on.

At this point, I had Genius (working well so far) but no Mixes.

- On Mac iTunes, Updated Genius, then Updated iTunes Match

- On iPhone, turned off Match, force-quit Music.app, restarted iPhone, turned Match back on.

Still no Genius Mixes. Then, I read the help files again, and saw this note about Mixes when Match isn't on: "Genius Mixes are synced automatically, unless you manually manage your music..." This references the 'Sync only checked music and videos' checkbox in iTunes. On a hunch, I tried turning that off on mine (even though it has no effect, since I'm using iTunes Match). Then I did a sync of the iPhone to iTunes, via cable.

And it worked!!!

Hope that helps someone! Try turning off the 'Sync only checked music and videos' checkbox in iTunes.

Hi all thanks for your solutions. Genius is now working for me. My Steps:

iTunes on Mac - switched off Music Match

iPhone - Switched off music match

iTunes on Mac - Switched on Music Match

After album art appeared in iTunes, Update Music Match, when this finishes, Genius Mixes appeared

iPhone - Switched on Music Match - albums appeared, a minute later Genius Mixes appear

Yay!

Thanks all!!!

My problem has been with Genius Mixes but not using Match, using Home Sharing with library on PC and shared with IPhone 4s and IPad2. Tried everything then I read about using the Remote App to allow for changes to DJ playlists. Since DJ playlists weren't showing up on my Home Sharing, I figured ...what the ****. Now everything...DJ mix, Genius & Genius Mix works plus if I want to alter the mix I can use the Remote App. Here's what I did:

On PC - Go To DJ Mix on ITunes

If it has never been set up you will get a set up message, continue then check the box "Allow quests to request songs with Remote for IPhone" Also check box "Restrict requests to source" then in the pull down screen select Genius. I did not enable voting or password. OK to update.

On IPhone - Install Remote App

Start up App

Make a change to the DJ playlist. Once you make the change you'll start seeing the Genius Mix Icon in the bottom control panel. When you select Genius Mix the IPhone will only show the first Mix. Swipe the screen to get the others.

It's possible all you need to do is install the Remote App, I not sure since the above steps were the first things I did with the App. Anyway it works slick plus you can now edit playlists and add new ones...Genius or otherwise, which never worked for me on Home Share using iOS devices.
