Can't Update to iOS 5.1

can anyone tell me whats the version code they see after the 5.1 update ?

its in the settings->general->about -- eg: version 5.1(9Bxxxxx)

the code in the bracket....

also can anyone give me the direct download link for 5.1 ipsw from apple ? i am unable to download via itunes...

Changing the DNS to 8.8.8.8 worked only on my iPad but cannot get it to work on my iPhone...is this the only thing that you need to do in everyone's opinion/knowledge or is there anything else that needs to be done?

I seem to be able to update an iPhone 3GS, but not 4S or iPad2 and these devices are all on the same network, using the same DNS. Maybe updates are being staggered?

Sorry, I should have said that that worked perfectly on a 4S and an Mk1 iPad here in the UK.

I also updated the DNS in my router to allow my AppleTV* to update too (I couldn't get it to change through the AppleTV settings themselves).

If changing it on the iPhone/iPad isn't working then I'd head to your router settings next. I'm guessing you did the whole "Have you tried turning it off and then on again?" thing after updating the settings on the iProducts? You shouldn't have to, but we all know what tech is like sometimes...

Changing the DNS server in the tcpip settings on my PC to 8.8.8.8, 8.8.4.4 worked instantly.

yes, me too, it doesn't work on my iphone 4s, ipad, and mac even changed DNS

Update: Still wouldn't work on my iPhone 4S or iPad after updating DNS, but would on iPhone 3GS. Then connected my iPhone 4S and iPad to my MAC and it updated via the iTunes store. Seems like there was an issue updating directly from the devices. Strange how it worked directly for the 3GS, but not the others though.

Doesn't work in my case... I simply don't believe it... 3 days after release and I can't get the software to at least fix the battery life in iPhone 4S and activate one function, without which my phone simply refuses to work in my office (that's the operator's problem, not iPhone's)... Hope, Apple solves that as soon as possible... Really disappointed. Tricks and tweaks - that's what I'm used on windows.... But I really want it simple - "boom, and it's there"...
