Arturo,

After you download USB Adapter Card Support 1.4.1 here...
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=31132

...also download TomeViewer here:
http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macos/4561

The installer in USB Adapter Card Support will not install on the 3400; TomeViewer will put the USB extensions on the desktop from the installer.

Once you have used Stuffit Expander on the USB Card_Support1.4.1.smi.bin download, mount the (.smi) file on the desktop. Launch TomeViewer...there will be no window, work from the menu bar...go to File > Open > find the USB Adapter Card Support installer > open the USB Adapter Card Tome. A window will open listing the seven USB extensions; highlight one > go to the menu bar > Archive > Expand > a window will open with the name of the file to be expanded > select 'desktop' at the top of the window > click 'expand' > do the same for all seven extensions.

Now quit all applications and utilities > open the HD icon > drag-copy all seven USB extensions on top of the closed System Folder icon > you will be prompted and they will automatically be installed in the Extensions folder. Now just restart and see if the USB PC card will work.

Arturo,

Open your Control Panels > Extensions Manager and see if these extensions are enabled (checked):

USB Support
USB Device Extension
USB Software Locator (requires Mac OS 9)
HID Library
Serial ShimLib
USB Mass Storage Support
USB Mass Storage Extension

Also, make sure you only have one each of these extensions; if more than one, drag it from the System Folder > Extensions folder to the trash. Or the duplicate extensions may be in the Extensions (Disabled) folder.

Go to the Energy Saver Control Panel > Advanced Settings, disable "allow processor cycling" for both Battery and Power Adapter.

Now restart •without• the USB PC card, then insert the card once the 3400 has started up to the desktop.

Arturo,

DDK stands for Driver Development Kit and is not for the end-user. I don't know why you are getting this message, but here are a few suggestions.

- Possibly the 'USB Support Extension' is not loading because you do not have all necessary extensions turned on. Create a new extension set in the Extensions Manager and name it 'All On', turn on all extensions, then restart and test. (The MacOS 8.6 All will not turn on all of the USB extensions.)

- Run Disk First Aid.

- Rebuild the desktop file:
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=10182

- If it still does not work, you may be missing one or more extensions.

Arturo,

I cannot recommend a printer but read through the posts over in the MacOS 9 Discussions and also post a question. You will of course have to find a printer that supports OS 8.6.

An external USB HD should work fine as long as the HD has its own power supply.

However, because you are technically using an unsupported configuration, it would be best to try a printer, any USB printer, and also a USB HD before buying these items.
