Hold down the spacebar as you reboot. Shortly after the smiling Mac appears, you should break into Extensions Manager, if it is present.

The Mac sometimes cannot continue to boot up after certain changes, but most of the time it works fine.

Another approach is to boot from a System CD and move the things you don't want out of the Extensions or Control Panels Folders.

Another approach is to hold down the Shift key to boot with extensions OFF, then move the things you don't want out of the Extensions or Control Panels folders.

some days ago i have found the ddk documentation . this doc says about the error(FYI the error appeared in usb card support 1.4.1, not in ddk extensions, specifically in "usb support"), and explains how to fix the error(resource id=1984 and add "usbx" (i dont remember this part). Please any volunteer with knowledge of c++ development, help me(i dont have knowledge of programming). is the only problem with my usb card

Arturo,

I don't believe there is any reason you should have to rewrite code. According to this site, it will work with native software:
http://www.wwc.edu/~frohro/Cardbus/Cardbus.html

I would first try a clean install (all new OS) plus a fresh install of USB Adapter Card Support 1.4.1 to see if your card works. If not, I would try one of the USB cards mentioned in the above article.

FINALLY my usb card works well.the problem is in resource id(the ddk documentation says what put in usbx a resource id number 1984, but this id exists in usb support extension!!!)
i dont knew why my usb support doesnt work(having the id) but yesterday i opened the usb support on resedit(i found the program), saved the file (but i dont modify nothing) and putting again in extension manager... ITS A MIRACLE!!! MY USB WORKS!!!! Problem solved. Now i can use my memory key without problems. One question: i have a 2GB HD(for laptop and formatted for mac), can i use this with a usb/ide adapter?

Arturo,

Excellent work on your part; I have no idea why what you did works, but that it works is all that matters.

I see no reason why the HD will not work but with a few caveats:

- The USB PC card does not supply sufficient bus power to power the HD. I would suggest finding a very cheap USB HD enclosure that also has its own power adapter.

- If the HD ever needs initializing, Drive Setup does not recognize USB or FireWire HDs. There are both third-party HD utilities to accomplish this, or you can connect the USB HD to a Mac running OSX...Disk Utility in X can handle both USB and FireWire drives.

Arturo,

You can share an HD with a PC/Windows and a Mac if it is formatted in MS-DOS (FAT32) format. This can be done either on a Windows or Mac computer. If on a Mac, connect the USB HD to a computer running OSX > open Disk Utility > select the HD in the left column (don't select the name of the volume but the whole HD itself, the topmost name) > select Erase > select MS-DOS.

If you have the File Exchange control panel enabled, you should be good to go.

I may have spoken to liberally about a disk utility for 8.x/9.x that can format USB HDs. Hard Disk SpeedTools supports almost all FireWire HDs but only a limited number of USB HDs. You will probably be better off using OSX or possibly the PC if you go MS-DOS.

NOTE FOR MODERATORS: Please, delete post between 5-29 march 2006(this post are useless and slows the access to this topic) FINALLY I HAVE THE SOLUTION User uploaded file . . .

Yesterday, i came back the os of my pb3400 to os8.6 (clean install) and THE STUPID USB SUPPORT CONTINUES User uploaded file The problem (extracted from a readme of usb ddk)is a missing resource(usbx and id=1984) what blocks the usb functionality(this explains why my usb card is detected but doesnt work) The easiest way for edit this is using resedit. just open usb support extension on resedit and create a usbx resource, else edit this resource(i dont remember this step) and change his ID to 1984. Save changes, put the usb support in extensions folder(if is not present) and restart the computer. PROBLEM SOLVED
