I have two Locked factory unlocked iPhone!!???

I bought two iPhone 4 8Gb in New York they are factory unlocked, at least they used to, be the box, the seriaal numbers everything is what is suppose to be with the caracteristics of a factory unlocked iphone, with the only problem that the iPhone now is locked for AT&T. Did anyone have this problem does anyone now of a solution for this. Im 100% sure the iphone are factory unlocked but they only work with at&T simcards for some reason. Its like they suddenly locked themselfs.

iPhone 4, iOS 5.0.1

the fine print of locked iphones is that they only work on GSM networks, so that might be why it seems AT&T is the only network who's sim cards work

Try putting a t-mobile sim in it - you will likely find it works if it is truely factory unlocked

verizon and sprint cannot be used with a factory unlocked iphone, because it must be a GSM network to work.

if you think this is stupid, it is important to note that the point of the factory unlock iphone is 1) you don't have to be on a contract and 2) if you are out of the country for an extended period of time, you can use one of the other country's GSM carrier's sim cards without having to try and get a US carrier to unlock the phone first.

Ok but the question is still ramains, How is it possible that the box, the serial number, the model everything coincides with an factory unlocked, and not an at&t locked iphone, why did the SAME phone, worked with my international sim card in the store and doesnt work once i tried it again a few weeks after with the same simcard!? I mean There was a call made with the iphone with the movistar sim card in it, to an argentinian number. The phone locked its self automaticly after that?? thats not possible! Something is not right here.

The model number is not an indication of the phones status, nor is the box, ESPECIALLY if you purchased them from an unauthorized source. As for the serial number, the only way to check that is contact AppleCare. They may be able to tell you.

More than likely, the phone was originally hacked to unlock it. Something caused it to re-lock. A restore or update will do that.

You would have to ask the seller that question about the box. Since they were apparently not an authorized iPhone dealer, there's no way to know where those iPhone might have come from. Again, only Apple Stores sell unlocked iPhones. I can only guess, but most likely the iPhones you purchased were hacked to unlock them, and during the course of some operation such as an upgrade to the operating system of the iPhone relocked to the original carrier.

Regards.

No imposible, the factory seal was removed in front of me, the phone didnt have cydia, no gevey sim,no ultrasnow no nothing. Im 100% sure the iphone in the store was working as an unlocked iphone, as to you your statement that you cant tell by the box, thats wrong, factory sealed iphones have the apple logo in the back, locked iphones have a carrier sticker instead. like the images im linking with this

And locked iphones box looks like this

Information in the box is the same as in the iphone, stickers cant be removed, because they rip apart and you can easy detect when they have been altered.

So you see, you can see if its unlocked by the box. so any other ideas?

Maybe you're not understanding... The ONLY place in the US to legitimately purchase an unlocked iPhone is an Apple corporate store or on line at apple.com.

You stated you did not purchase at an Apple store, therefore you purchased from an unauthorized, gray market source. There is no way to tell what you got. Shrink wrapping a product to make it appear factory sealed is ridiculously simple. Removing and replacing stickers on a box is ridiculously simple.

The simple fact of the matter is, you got ripped off.
