after ios 5.1 update apps won't download

I had trouble downloading the ios 5.1 update, but found a thread on here that pointed me to an open dns address, so i typed that in the dns field and it worked. I have the updated ios 5.1. I went back and deleted the dns address, connected to my local wi-fi and the internet and all functions seem to work fine, but when i try to download an app, whether it's one i used to have or a new one, it won't download. It begins to, then the icon flashes waiting/loading, waiting/loading, then a screen pops up that says "unable to download application. "imovie" could not be downloaded at this time. done, retry"

It's not just imovie, I've tried others as well.

i turned off and turned on. I can't sync now because i'm away from my laptop. i have verizon iphone 4s.

Hi everybody, after a long search and thanks to other contributors, I confirm the easiest and working solution is to go to Settings / General and Reset to original (in Italian Ripristina) (last row) and follow the sequence.

After all it will ask you to set iPhone or iPad as new and you say "yes".

You'll only need to reset network passwords and your sound settings.

It's really a minor hassle with excellent results. You also need to re-install emoticons and other vocabularies.

Thanks to everybody posted.

I'm having the same problem. I have an iPhone 4s, updated to 5.1 & now I cannot update or purchase apps. They just sit & hang on waiting. I tried syncing my phone several times but that did not work. Seems this is an Apple bug & they really need to fix it. I'm going to try resetting my settings & will cross my fingers that it works if not I will be off to the apple store later today.

I'm so ****** right now at the reset all settings! I don't know what I did and it's probably my fault. I did that option that everyone said worked for them and I think I shouldn't have hit the restore from iCloud option! Now that deleted all my music off of my phone and it deleted my camera roll and only downloaded 4 photos from the backup! On my iCloud backup it says I have 1.7GB of photos backup on there! I know they're on Photostream so I'm only slightly annoyed but I went out of town to a fare this weekend and there was video that I took that I would like to have back! On top of all this I still can't download! After this lesson, I don't think I'll be backing up to iCloud anymore. After how they said it saves everything and it all redownloads back to your phone, in my case I can say it doesn't do that! It also deleted text messages off of my phone that I needed 😟 but hey on the brightside all my apps were still installed and their data is in place! All that was screwed up was messages and camera roll... and my photostream has over 1,000 in it and it quit updating on my iPhone when it hit 339. How do I get them all back?

Eric, that was the very FIRST thing I tried, and it's also how I lost my NCAA brackets. Too bad, it obviously was just too easy. I'm almost afraid to do the reset all thing, since everything is still working since doing the "log out/in" fix. In ANY case, we shouldn't have to be going through ANY of this. If this something WAS necessary for users to know, Microsoft, ER..ah, Apple should have provided an ADVISORY prior to downloading the update. The iPad is my FIRST Apple device, after using PC and Microsoft OS for more than 20 years. To be honest, glitches like this make me nostalgic due to its incompetence, which was something I experienced FREQUENTLY with MS OS and application updates/upgrades.

Does Apple not realize that they will be loosing money. I travel a lot and I am always downloading movies, TV shows, etc to my IPAD. Well I can't at this point. I would assume there are 1000 and 1000 like me. I just call Apple tech support number and actually talk to a technician. His recommendation was reset all. I asked him if he has heard of this problem and he said I was the first one to call about it that he is aware of. Sure I beleive that

I am having this issue too. Cannot update apps from iPhone 4G, either using WiFi or 3G network - doesn't make a difference. This started a few days after updating to iOS 5.1.

Tried to hard reset, reboot, sign-out of account - nothing works and what's more annoying, is that the app hangs in "waiting" mode which neutralizes the app - can't use it.

The only thing that works is to update the apps through iTunes and then connect to PC/Mac for sync operation.

Last night I had 2 updates that were playing the Waiting Game. Instead of screwing with it, i left them in the waiting state and docked my phone to charge over night. In the morning, the two apps that had been waiting were completely updated. Not sure why it is taking so long to do the updates - maybe it has something to do with all the apps being updated for the new iPad retina screen chocking everything else off on iTunes on the mobile devices - but it eventually updated overnight.

So I now hazve two ways to solve this problem without a reset. Update through iTunes on my PC computer or update just before going to bed and dock it and let it update over night. Not pretty solutions but may beat a reset until we hear (if we hear) from Apple.
