after ios 5.1 update apps won't download

I had trouble downloading the ios 5.1 update, but found a thread on here that pointed me to an open dns address, so i typed that in the dns field and it worked. I have the updated ios 5.1. I went back and deleted the dns address, connected to my local wi-fi and the internet and all functions seem to work fine, but when i try to download an app, whether it's one i used to have or a new one, it won't download. It begins to, then the icon flashes waiting/loading, waiting/loading, then a screen pops up that says "unable to download application. "imovie" could not be downloaded at this time. done, retry"

It's not just imovie, I've tried others as well.

i turned off and turned on. I can't sync now because i'm away from my laptop. i have verizon iphone 4s.

Well after many attempts at other fixes recommended in this link I finally resorted to restoring my iPhone through iTunes. It appears to have worked. I just downloaded a free app & updated one of my apps with an update. No waiting; loaded instantly. Hopefully this fixes it or I will be taking off a day of work & driving to the Apple store which is almost an hour away.

Update from me:

I'm still downloading my music in batches. The more downloads are finished, I believe, the responsiveness decreases.

It's like a buffer, folder, DB, whatever fills up and the download of new apps start slower again.

Not as bad as it was before the restore procedure, but it's definitely not as it used to be - before 5.1 update.

Just to let you know.

This worked for me for 2 downloads... and now i'm back to the same waiting.

Followed this link and it worked!: http://www.ifans.com/forums/threads/apps-stuck-waiting-solved.316037/

It seems like the downloads.28.sqlitedb file gets corrupted somehow. ONce you delete it, and reboot your device, your iPhone re-creates the file, and it should work!

Thanks to all who suggested this link!

I just got off of apple care. They were of no help. I am not having this problem with my iPhone 4s, but I am having this problem with my iPad 2. It seems that I can hook my ipad up to my macbook and it will install the new updates; however, when I try to update the apps using WiFi, then it doesn't work. I am giving up for tonight.

Really frustrated.

WOW!!! 13 pages of comments 99.99% saying we all have the problem and Apple will still not own up to the problem??????

That is ridiculous. There is some problem with IOS 5.1 My own experiance has been the first wifi download works but if I try another it sits there for anywhere between 10 minutes to 45 minutes "waiting". They have all resolved themselves "in time". This is with my 4s running 5.1

HEY APPLE --- FIX THIS BUG IN IOS 5.1

Why don't all of you just relax with your iPhones? Can't you wait a few minutes, heck, even a few hours. I mean, your phone is going to and coming back from SPACE...can't you wait a little for it to come back from SPACE? Louis C.K. Should work for Apple tech support to tell all of you to relax. Does no one remember dial-up? Or how about life before the Internet? We survived. You all will too even if you have to wait 25 minutes for Netflix to update. Go read a physical book, not an eBook/iBook, or play basketball outside, or go on a run rather than sit there in your house surrounded by objects offering a multitude of activities while you stare, frustrated, at your phone's screen.

Tonyx37, I think people don't mind waiting several hours even though they shouldn't have to. I waited 3 days! and not a single one changed from Waiting status. I couldn't even pause or unpause it. I couldn't even hold it and then delete it. I couldn't do anything. I could still browse the web though, so wifi works fine. It didn't complain about my iTunes password either; I've tried logging out and logging in, but after a few days, nothing changed. I can relax but for how long? The problem is not as simple as you stated and some people have better luck, some will have to resort to factory reset. Don't you think there is a problem if factory reset is the only solution?

If you have done all your iOS upgrades via OTA on the iDevice and not via iTunes, I would recommend you to restore your iDevice with iTunes, where you download the full iOS package. Restore it with your backup. Don't try the reset at the iPhone settings screen. That didnt help.

My device is downloading since an hour or so from iCloud several songs and in between I started some app downloads. Everything back to normal.

Good luck to everyone.

yes!!! I did that when I got home from work and let me tell you, it actually worked! I plugged my phone into iTunes and had it do a restore by downloading the full iOS 5.1 and restoring my phone from iCloud. It fixed the downloading issue and I was able to recover the data I was missing from previous attempts. I canceled all my music downloads though since they're all on my computer and I just resync to get all those. This is the only method I've found that actually works 100% and while I can't tell you why, it seems like there was a glitch with the delta 5.1 update. At least for me the problem is solved.

I can confirm, that I've downloaded several songs from match and started some app downloads this morning. Everything back to normal.

I, too, do believe, that the 5.1 delta update might have caused trouble. Over The Air (OTA) updates always had that reputation of being buggy... Next iOS update is on USB cable and full download again.

Now, I need to solve my strange DNS problem, that happens every other week. iPhone stops communicating with the net on DNS names. Only IP addresses work. (Sorry offtopic...)
