after ios 5.1 update apps won't download

I had trouble downloading the ios 5.1 update, but found a thread on here that pointed me to an open dns address, so i typed that in the dns field and it worked. I have the updated ios 5.1. I went back and deleted the dns address, connected to my local wi-fi and the internet and all functions seem to work fine, but when i try to download an app, whether it's one i used to have or a new one, it won't download. It begins to, then the icon flashes waiting/loading, waiting/loading, then a screen pops up that says "unable to download application. "imovie" could not be downloaded at this time. done, retry"

It's not just imovie, I've tried others as well.

i turned off and turned on. I can't sync now because i'm away from my laptop. i have verizon iphone 4s.

iPhone 3GS

Had 48 app updates to catch up on

Got to 24 downloaded successfully but then would not continue with any further updates

Would ask for user name and password but then got "Cannot update at this time" message ... for 3 days

My apps are contained in app 'icon boxes/folders'

Tried reboot [top button] [slide to poweroff]

Hard reboot [top button] [Screen button] wait till apple sign

Updated Phone to iOS 5.1.1

All to no effect

Rang apple support 0800 0480 408 ... from land line not the faulty iPhone ... took a good while for them to answer but chap was helpfull.

Asked for phone imie? number which I got by typing *#06#

The guy then asked for my details and said the phone was not registered to me ...?

Turns out that if you have had a replacement phone at any point then the imie? detail may not match you

Then used [Setting] [General] [About] Serial Number AAnnnnAnnAA which confirmed me as owner

This was solution worked for me

1 Press [screen button] and hold untill icons wobble and they have [x] in top right corner

2 Delete icon by touching [x] in top right corner

3 [App Store] [Update All]

You should find that the icon re-appears outside of 'icon boxes/folders' - at last free screen and starts to update correctly (blue line starts to increment at botton of icon)

You will then have to move it back into 'icon boxes/folders'

Bit of a pain especially since I had 24 outstanding.

Would suggest you deleted and update one 'icon boxes/folders' one at a time to make it easier to move them back into the original 'icon boxes/folders'

This must be a BUG right ... ?!

Hope it helps ...😀

I bought my iphone yesterday.. downloaded a few apps, updated my iphone to the 5.1 and then it all went downhill.

I could not download new applications or do updates- they were all stuck on 'waiting'

----THE FIX ----

Settings - general - reset all settings (this will not delete any data on your phone)

After I did that I could download apps fine again!

Here's what happened and what fixed the issue for me...

...was downloading and installing apps quite happily on new iPad this evening. Then kicked off a download of a podcast in iTunes, this particular podcast always downloads slowly so it was going to take a while. Went back or organising/downloading apps and hit the "waiting" problem - couldn't update any apps, couldn't download any new ones. Tried soft reset, syncing with iTunes, logging out/in of app-store, turning wi-fi off/on, plugging into power... nothing worked.

Then I 'paused' that downloading podcast...tried to get new app again and it worked straight away!

Not sure how common ths situation will be to others, but might be useful to someone.
