after ios 5.1 update apps won't download

I had trouble downloading the ios 5.1 update, but found a thread on here that pointed me to an open dns address, so i typed that in the dns field and it worked. I have the updated ios 5.1. I went back and deleted the dns address, connected to my local wi-fi and the internet and all functions seem to work fine, but when i try to download an app, whether it's one i used to have or a new one, it won't download. It begins to, then the icon flashes waiting/loading, waiting/loading, then a screen pops up that says "unable to download application. "imovie" could not be downloaded at this time. done, retry"

It's not just imovie, I've tried others as well.

i turned off and turned on. I can't sync now because i'm away from my laptop. i have verizon iphone 4s.

I was having the same problem where it was telling me I needed to update my aps but then wouldn't update them. I connected it to my computer hoping that would help but didn't. But I figured out a way for it work. On the left hand side of iTunes where it says "Library" "Store," etc, under "Library" there is a tab that says "Apps" click on that tab. After clicking on that tab it should say how many updates you have but if not on the bottom right hand corner it says "check for updates" there you also have the option of updating your apps. So update your apps on your itunes, then under your iPad options select the Apps tab and check the sync Apps box and it will update everything for you!

Worked for me, I hope it helps you!

I fixed it. Thank you for the information!

iPad 2

iOS 5.1.1

I connected the iPad to my macbook pro. I downloaded this:

Download

iFunbox

I installed it, ran it. Clicked on "raw files"

and opened "Downloads" folder.

I highlighted EVERYTHING and deleted it.

I closed iFunbox

I waited about 30 seconds to ensure all usb activity was completed.

I disconnected my iPad.

Then I held down home and lock until the "slide to power off" showed up. KEPT holding it down until the screen went completely black. KEPT holding it down until I saw an apple logo. I let go of both.

The apps that were hung on update attempt were back to normal and I could run them.

I then went to the app store on my ipad and clicked UPDATES and 6 were pending. The same six that brought me to this thread. I clicked UPDATE ALL and it worked perfectly.

I am back to normal now.

Nothing has worked for me.. I am on IOS 5.1.1 and have the same issue.. apps wont download .. just get Waiting and then loading and then the message that the app can not be downloaded. Ive talked to apple and sprint and no one can resolve it.. Im downloading on 3G .. it worked a few times... Im going to try WIFI when I get home and see what happens...

After trying half a dozen of these, this one finally worked for me (iPhone 3GS). Back to normal now.

------------------------------------------------------

I have an iPhone 4S through Verizon, and have been dealing with this same problem. After trying most everything in the above discussion thread, I called Verizon this morning and was transferred directly to Apple, where I received a simple piece of advice. All I had to do was to open iTunes on my computer (I have a Macbook) and update all of my applications there. When those updates were finished, I synced my iPhone, and the updates successfully transferred to the phone.

Hopefully that won't always be necessary, but for now I'm grateful to be rid of the "Waiting" messages.....

I have an iPhone 3GS with a foreign provider and have the same problem. I tried all your advice but nothing seems to work. Many apps stay in "waiting" mode. I can't even delete them from my iPhone directly nor with iTunes. I can uncheck the box of the stuck apps, but after syncing they are still on my phone in the waiting mode. I updated all the apps in itunes and synced, but didn't help. I reset my iphone.

What can I do???

Sir, with all do respect these are just directions on how to download apps onto a computer, which you can ten Sync with a device. The issue here is that we can't download apps from the device. Be them previously purchased or new apps.

I'm starting to wonder if this is the Apple method, call out PEBKAC; and never announce the dispute between them and Sprint (from what a Sprint rep told me) in which they are both blamin each other for these issues. I mean no offense but the "Did you try resetting the device" type answers are getting very stale.

I can only download from app store over wifi.. apple tells me to use wifi but that it should work over 3G. I spent 2 hours on the phone wi sprint and they tellme apple only allows download for app store ove wifi ... I told themmy coworkers who have AT&T and Verizon and have the 4s can dowload fine. I also explained that we have 13 iPads and 13 sprint mifi units and all of them would not download apps over the sprint network. This makes me believe it is a sprint issue that needs to be resolved...... anyone have more info?.

Okay, so apparantly my previous post was unacceptable, so I'll try to be more tactful.

Some Items

  • Sprint told me on the phone last night that Apple and Sprint are pointing fingers about app store issues over cellular data.
  • In using FireFox recently I have come across a certain prompt that would suggest Sprint is using image compression for their data.
  • For over a week I haven't been able to use my iPhone 4s as advertised, which is to say downloading lite weight apps from the App Store over a cellular data connection doesn't work.
  • Perhaps there is a correlation between the compression and the App Store issues. I'm not going to speculate that there is, but I wanted to mention the thought.
  • Sprint has seemingly bet the company on the iPhone, perhaps the network itself would have been a more valid focal point, time will tell.
