after ios 5.1 update apps won't download

I had trouble downloading the ios 5.1 update, but found a thread on here that pointed me to an open dns address, so i typed that in the dns field and it worked. I have the updated ios 5.1. I went back and deleted the dns address, connected to my local wi-fi and the internet and all functions seem to work fine, but when i try to download an app, whether it's one i used to have or a new one, it won't download. It begins to, then the icon flashes waiting/loading, waiting/loading, then a screen pops up that says "unable to download application. "imovie" could not be downloaded at this time. done, retry"

It's not just imovie, I've tried others as well.

i turned off and turned on. I can't sync now because i'm away from my laptop. i have verizon iphone 4s.

I have also had this issue.

It has been several days since I read all the posts thus I hope this will not be old news...

When a downloaded App stalls and goes no further than saying "installing" without doing so I did this...

Found the original App in my device and deleated it. I then found it in iTunes and downloaded it.

Worked perfectly.

Now these were free Apps but if I recall correctly iTunes remembers purchased Apps and they will download also without charging you.

Hope this is of some help.

I have not read every reply to this thread, so please excuse me if I am repeating. I had the same problem with "waiting". Everything appeared stuck. After trying restarting, a hard reset, etc, I went back jnto iTunes and went to the Downloads on the bottom, far right. There it showed I had one movie downloading, very slowly I might add. Elsewhere it looked like it was complete, but there I saw it wasn't and paused that download. Then all the app updates etc started to go. Hope this helps someone.

Fixed problem on iPad 3. 15 apps all waiting to download.

Turns out that an 'App' in the newstand was stuck on a in app subscription download. (The New Yorker).

When there was an update for the actual magazine app that resided in the newstand, the update was stuck, and all further updates of regular apps were stuck.

Started magazine app from the newstand, downloaded the subscription, and ALL the apps updated.

As mentioned previously, this can happen with any subscription, as in podcasts, and possibly In app purchases. Take a look at what apps are trying to update, the one first in the list in the App Store Updates could be the culprit.

Easiest way to fix is to change the itunes root account on your phone. Log into it, (view balance in settings)

and then change it back to your primary root account.

You can either use someone else's (TURN OFF CLOUD SYNC!!!!!) or just go make a bogus one right now and use that. (that's what I did) You do NOT have to use credit card info to do that, simply go to any starbucks and grab one of their "single of the week" download cards. It's EXACTLY the same as a gift card.

By the way, update: ipod 5 ios 6.0

Hang issue. The only sovle that worked on this one was to sync with PC. That seems to be the cure-all for this particular symptom.

It seems there are different ways it will hang on "waiting..' some are local to the unit and others are due to the account state. Either way, ALL issues I've had with this AWLAYS clear up with a PC connect and sync.

After reading through all the posts, I have to wonder why there has been NO response from Apple about this issue. As far as I can tell it is a problem that spans iPhones from 3GS to 5 as well as iPads. It is not unique to any carrier and exists on cellular networks as well as Wi-Fi. The "solutions" posted are just possible workarounds not actual fixes and even those do not come from Apple, but from concerned users. I would think that with thousands of users (based on the number of forums this comes up in) having the same problem that Apple would want to protect its reputation and fix the problem, but they do not seem to even be interested. I don't know about everyone else, but I am feeling a little "blown off" and really starting to question if, in fact, "it just works."

The difference is that Jobs would have had his foot up somebody's butt out of principle, but the new CEO is the typical corporate drone that only cares about quarterlies.

I have two apps that none of the above tricks have fixed. I am glad I bought this brick to test before trying to roll them out to the company. Apple is not ready for business.

99% is becuz it's too much workload when we chose the "Update All" option, and we have too many apps to update, especially when some of the apps exceed 100MB, that causes the clusters.

I tried restarting my iPad, but it did not work, however, please try:

1) Sign out from iTunes

2) Turn of Wi-Fi connection

3) Turn off your device

4) Turn it back on again

It might tell you one of the apps exceeds 100MB and requires attention. It suggests you to connect with Wi-Fi, so you click "Done" and close the dialog box.

5) Reconnect using Wi-Fi

6) Log in to your iTunes account

The apps should start loading update again.

I hope that helps.

Thanks

BO

I've an iPhone 4s, had no probs up until the other day... I've recently updated to iOS 6 ( waited for most of the bugs to get worked out, will do the same before updating to 1.7 ) Had about 14 updates in app store (most I’ve ever had at once I think), hit Update, it updated all but 4, the 4 would not finish no matter what I tried, even the suggestions here. Was finally able to get it going with this: hard reset, turn phone on, message pop-up to sign in to iTunes, click Cancel, find one app that was stuck updating, click on it, update started and completed, did same for remaining apps.
