Error , problems updating to iOS 5.1

Want to personally thank you and this thread. The dns 8.8.8.8 solved my problem on not 1 but 2 ios 5.1 devices. Ipad and iphone. I suspect problem as has benn suggested elsewhere is some dns servers dont recognize address.

My dns was default 192.168.1.1 which simply forwards it onto hwat router is connevted to. In my case mifi via vzw. So vzw users must be struggling as well.

Thanks. I switched to google dns and it worked like a charm. My download had failed repeatedly (dozens of times) before that.

Seems like Apple is blacholing all requests from Non-US users since you have to use American DNS... 😟

Your fix worked. I had been trying numerous times before that to download the update but failed to do so.

Hi stevejobsfan0123 I live in Canada so I'm very far from Apple HQ. Can you go there for me or tell me how to update successfully? I've tried OTA and iTunes, they both gave me an error message. In iTunes it said a network connection could not be established but I can access in Internet. Please help me.

You need a wifi connection. In settings go to wifi. Choose you wifi connection by hitting arrow to right. Look for DNS. Erase what's there. If worried select do can cut paste back. Enter 8.8.8.8

you're good to go.as added precaution Ho to settings network and turn off cellular data.

I've tried that and a couple other DNS found on OSxdaily.com . None have worked.

Oy yoy. I'm afraid of what apple will suggest.

I called them but my AppleCare expired all they did was email me 2 support articles. Didn't help 1 bit.

So sorry to hear. No bright ideas.
