Journal won't publish to iCloud?

Journals look like a great idea. But I've now created two on my iPad 2 and tried to publish to iCloud but all I get is the spinning wheel which suggests that the file is being transferred, but it never stops spinning. The first journal I tried to publish had about 10 photos, so I thought it might be that the files were too big. So then I tried to publish a journal with a single photot, but got the same behaviour. The spinning wheel spun on for ever.

Anyone any ideas?

No. Just today I have resurrected my original AppleCare support email thread with Level 2 tech - the one that was taken over by the more pressing iCloud storage problem detailed above.

Again, I deleted the iPhoto app entirely and started over on the iPhone.... but it's no different. Says it's published to iCloud, but then hangs on the next step (generating urls for the supposedly 'shared' journal).

As previous, it's working fine on the iPad (same iCloud account), just won't work at all on the iPhone 5.

Will report back when I hear back from tech again.

I originally reported this problem on this thread in May 2012 when I bought the iPhoto app and was unable to publish a journal since day one on my iPad 2.

I am a Windows user (please don't hate me for that). I recently upgraded my Windows from 7 to 8 doing a clean install. As part of the upgrade, I deauthorized all computers in iTunes. The process is outlined here:

http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1420

They only allow one complete deauthorization per year

On the fresh Windows 8 installation, I installed iTunes 11, authorized my computer and synced the iPad.

To my pleasant surprise, iPhoto now publishes the Journals and also shows a neat progress bar for the upload. No more endless spinning wheel!

I am not sure that the deauthorization led to the solution but it worked for me. My iPhoto version is 1.1(293) and iOS is 6.0.1.

Well, after nearly two months, without any obvious explanation, my journals have begun to publish. I know not why. A week or so ago I got word through my "case worker' that this problem had been "escalated" after the team had finally been able to reproduce the problem and could NOW see that it was a REAL problem....vindicated, I guess.

Anyway, I've now created a few new (junk / trial) journals and been able to publish them and the largest journal, the one that started all this for me, has begun to publish again.....

I wish I could convey something that would help others, but I really have NO IDEA what happened to change things. Maybe I'll learn something in the coming week.

I'm not sure if the version of iPhoto has changed. It was updated a while back, but I had tried publishing unsuccessfully after the last KNOWN update. I'm now running v 1.1(293).

This is really a relief as I'm making plans to leave on another trip soon and had almost lost hope of using iPhoto to record the outing. At any rate, I'm going to continue to test through the coming week (or more) to be sure this is for real, but it does look encouraging.

I hope you all have similar experiences SOON.

Oh I'm deeply envious! Just tried it again here and still no change. Haven't heard back from Apple eitther, after reminding them about it last week.

A quick question for you, since you've got it working now. When everything is functioning properly, would you expect to see all your iCloud journals on all your devices? For instance, let's say you publish Journal A from your iPhone (Device A), and Journal B from your iPad (Device B), ensuring they have both been chosen to "Add to Homepage"

If you went to view the Homepage link in Safari, I'm assuming that both Journals A & B would appear there, even though they'd been published via two different devices (with a red folder closer, denoting they can't be edited)?

But what about on the devices themselves? Does Journal A appear in your journals list on Device B, and vice versa? I'd always thought this would be how it worked, and would be really useful when you've created Journals on your iPad, but don't have it with you...

Just curious!

It looks like it - all journals that I created on my iPad are visible in iPhoto on my iPod as well, only I cannot edit them.

.....and just like that all of a sudden my journals are being published. It's working fine on my iPad and desktop computer. Nothing I think I did fixed it, so I would assume Apple did something. When I run the slideshow it takes a couple of seconds for the photos to focus. Not sure if that is normal. Other than that everything appears to be working fine at this time. Here's hoping this is a good sign for others.

I haven't had a very clear explanation of what happened yet, but what I'm getting so far is that there was a problem after the iLife / iWork and iOS 6.0 updates in September. I didn't do those updates when they became available as we were traveling and I didn't want to add another layer of complexity to our journey so waited until we got home. My journal worked fine all the way through the trip and when I got home it continued to work OK until I did the aftorementioned updates.....bingo, everything came to a halt.

I explained all this to the case worker when I first called in, but they discounted any connection until this last week (about two months later) when the problem was "mysteriously" solved.

If I get a better (read straight) answer as to what happened, I'll relate it to you all.

One thing I did after I realized that I was getting the function back was to turn OFF Publish to iCloud for ALL journals. I left things alone for a couple of hours then turned it back on. Dunno if that made any real difference, but if you're still having trouble, it might be worth a try.
