Photostream incomplete in appleTV

I installed the latest update for appleTV. I also installe IOS 5.1 on my iPhone. This version of iOS allows me to delete photos from my photostream. So I deleted a few photos that I didn't want in the photostream. After deleting a few photos, I turned on the appleTV and looked at my photostream, All the photos are still there. So I logged out of the appleTV photostream and logged back in. It showed my photostream empty and started downloading the images. However it only downloaded 7 images. I have over 200 images in the Photostream according to my iPhone.

So two bugs observed:

1) Deleting photos from the iPhone Photostream does not delete it from all other devices.

2) Logging out of Photostream from appleTV and logging back in will only download a few images from the photostream. Not all images show up.

Anyone else observe this? And figure out how to get all the photos from photostream to show up on the appleTV?

I resolved the issue by connecting the AppleTV with a USB cable to my Mac. I ran iTunes and did a software restore/factory reset or whatever it is they call it (it's been months since I did this, so I don't remember what it was really called). And since then I've had no issues with my AppleTV's photostream.

Because of Apple TVs limited memory Device will only download recent photos from photo stream when first activated.. So far what I have noticed is when it is powered on and photo stream is Initially set up& downloaded it will continue building your photo stream Collection on the Apple TV. If you were to unplug it for an undetermined amount of time like you went away on vacation. It will not recall all of the photos that you had on it originally. Sign out of photo stream on Apple TV then sign back in and it will do another download process which you will have limited photos again. Desire a larger collection of photos? Apple tv can be set up where it will read and stream from your laptop or desktop What ever albums you wish it to. This can be set up in home sharing on the computer. You can select what photos you would like to share with other devices. When the sharing process is complete and you are on AppleTV you can then choose which photos from the computer to have as your screensaver. It will then act similar to photo stream but you will have to have your computer on any time you wish to do this. Off the top of my head I don't remember the steps as in 123 but I do know when I set this up it was first through the laptop authorizing what albums to share.

Update... On your computer in iTunes click on preferences. Then click on sharing. For my set up I checked share my Library on my local network. Then I click on share entire library. You can choose to have a password if you wish. Next in the iTunes click on file then go to home sharing and you can click on choose photos to share with Apple TV. Assuming that you have home sharing already turned on. From there you can share all of your photos or just some selected albums. This way there are no limitations on the Apple TV because you are streaming them from your computer. Whereas photo stream uses some of the very limited memory from the Apple TV once it is set up. Once again only issue there is the computer must be on in order for this to work as your Apple TV screensaver.

I cannot believe this hasn't been fixed. I kept seeing old Photo Stream photos I deleted ages ago and reset my AppleTV...now I have 30 something photos out of almost 800!! My dog passed away in March and now I can't see his cute little face anymore. I don't want to load all my pics from my computer...and I tried this anyway and it's taking forever...I just want my photostream as is on my AppleTV. I will restore it later, but I wonder if that will even work. So bummed.

I am sorry for your loss. Just an outsider perspective. It's probably less time-consuming and less headache to simply set up your home sharing on your computer it's one click away and allow the time to download and established the connection with your Apple TV to regain viewing ability of your photos ypu really want to see. I guess it depends on your Wi-Fi connection in house. Mine took less than one minute. I have an Apple Airport extreme wireless router. Restoring will not work. You probably will find that when you restore this AppleTV between the last time that you did a reset you will now have even less pictures. The new generation Apple TVs have very limited memory. They are all about streaming. They will never be able to fix it the way that you want it. I don't like it either but that is just my opinion.

Yesterday I was upset because I deleted and updated my photo stream on my AppleTV to get rid of old pictures I had long since deleted and it wouldn't update my close to 800 pics, just 30 something, no matter how much time I gave it to update. I figured out a work-around. I created a new photo stream that I didn't make public and put the pictures I wanted in it and was able to select it as my slideshow on my AppleTV. I could have dumped my entire photo stream on there, but decided not to. Glad I figured this out. I almost like this solution better than having my whole photo stream as there are some pictures that I don't care to have in a slide show!

Not sure if this resolution been brought up; however, I was told by Apple Support that AppleTV will use photos uploaded from the previous 30 days. I was told that this was always the case, but I don't recall having this issue prior to v6.0 update.

To resolve, I deleted all the photos in the Photo Stream in iPhoto, and re-added all back into the Photo Stream. It seems to be working. As each photo is added back to the stream, I notice its being synced to AppleTV. I know its not the best resolution, but I hope this will wake-up the syncing process and keep current as more photos are added.
