Try performing a reset on the device by holding down both the home button and sleep/wake button for a couple of seconds.

I just had this happen to me today. Very embarassing! Is there a fix for this?

The first step to recover is to power off your phone. And as the other user stated the phone cannot be turned off while it's vibrating and it is not being recognized by iTunes at all. It is as if you never plugged your phone in at all. No response by iTunes period. No repsonse to holding home and power buttons simultaneously either. I sure could use another strategy to try.

You might consider taking your phone into an Apple Store. It looks like the physical and software recommendations here have run their course.
