Why can't I update my Apple TV?

I don't know how to select "Like" to add to your points, but it worked just fine. Thanks for posting. Apple TV is upgraded!

The 1st gen ATv is only upgradable to 3.0.2. You're going to have to search the web for the Software to update to that version. This is why it important to UPDATE your software. Does'n have to right away, but it should be doing on regular BASIS.

Worked awesome for me too, but does anyone know why this work around is required?

Changing DNS on my AppleTV (1st Generation) to 8.8.8.8. doesn't work. It starts loading the update and after some minutes it puts out an error message, the update is not available. Do all the Apple TV users have this problem? I mean this sounds like a major issue...

Hello Demian (you seem to be the good one here! =) ) My Apple TV first generation was up to date, but I had to restore it and went back to 2.1... I cant upgrade it from the AppTv menu, and neither from itunes...

I will look around for the 3.0.2 but how do I install it to the App Tv when I find it??

I just noticed that is not only that my appTv first gen is at 2.2 and cant upgrade, also it dosent let me buy or rent anything it says that mine is not a test account and that I shoul creat a Sanbox account (????)

I tried to install Rowmote and now I have all this mess here... =(

I am in the same boat. Apple TV (1st generation), will no longer update the sofware, even after doing a factory restore!

Changed settings like you said, it goes through the motions Starts with 7 minutes remaining - gets to 1 minute remaining, then message comes up "Apple TV update could not be downloaded at this time"?
