Does iPhone 4s (AT&T) work in Saudi Arabia?

So I'm moving to Riyadh, Saudi Arabia for a year stint and was wondering if my iPhone 4s on the AT&T network will work there and be fully functional?

Will there be added fees or charges in doing so?

iPhone 4S, iOS 5.1, AT&T

The only way your phone will work there is while roaming. This would cost a fortune. Since an AT&T iPhone cannot be officially unlocked, you'd be better served by selling your current phone & purchasing an unlocked iPhone from Apple before you go. I'd suggest buying a phone in Saudi Arabia(they are all officially unlocked), but FaceTime has been removed from all iPhones sold there. Thus, if FaceTime is important to you, don't purchase an iPhone there.

If you're going to use a local carrier in Saudi Arabia for example mobily or etisalat your phone wont work because its most likely locked on AT&T & sadly AT&T does not unlock an iPhone for any reason or under any circumstances. To be more specific I think you can use AT&T in Saudi arabia ( roaming ) but your bill will be enormous , the last time i check AT&T Standard International Roaming in Saudi Arabia was $2.49/minute which was about a year ago, off course you can call AT&T and ask about the roaming prices

If facetime is important to you then just like wjosten said you should sell your current phone and get a new one officially unlocked & I want to add something facetime is removed only from devices sold by the local carriers in Saudi Arabia many stores in Saudi Arabia sell iphones imported from different regions like UK for example so facetime will be working the only problem you will face is the warranty
