Album artwork not syncing on iPhone iOS 5.1 update

Has anyone else had a problem with album artwork not showing up in the Music App since the recent iOS 5.1 update? i've tried restoring my iphone, changing the resolution of the artwork to 600x600, deleting all the music off and resyncing, and many other troubleshoots to NO avail. please advise if you have had a similar problem RECENTLY?

I don't know if this matters, but I am having the same issue - no artwork. I also use MediaMonkey to generate all of my tags and artwork. I've noticed the following:

1) When I add songs to iphone using MM, all artwork is present on iphone. When I open itunes to sync other items, I lose all music on iphone, even with "do not sync music".

2) When I convert tags in itunes to v2.4 as suggested in previous posts, it changes certain fields in the tags from what I had in MM (for example, "genre" changes from "rock" to the number 11. Tag in iTunes doesn't change. Weird. Seems like there is some tagging version issues.

Anyways, that's it. I tried all of the suggestions, nothing worked. Waiting for next update hoping it gets fixed.

I resolved my issue by doing the following ridiculous step:

***restored my iphone to factory settings and started from scratch.

Once I did that, the artwork updated on my iphone like a charm. I have to give Apple credit for making it easier to reset your phone and starting from scratch, than to troubleshoot what seems to be a simple little problem like getting artwork on your phone, when it's already in itunes. Wow!

I did restore my iPhone to factory settings after upgrading to iOS 6. Started from scratch and it still doesn't work.

@madswine

The reason the artwork syncs for you now is you haven't clicked the "Convert my music to xxx Kbps" in iTunes after restoring your iPhone. As discussed before in this thread, this is the issue. Songs that are being compressed to a lower bitrate in iTunes before being transferred to the iDevice don't show artwork on the iDevice.

If you don't compress your songs, the artwork will show up on your iDevice.

No. There are people here (including me) for whom the "Convert music..." option does not fix the problem. I have never used the convert option and all my artwork is gone. I have also tried the unsync/sync suggestion and it did not work, either. I've tried every suggestion here and I have spent hours trying to get my artwork back. Ridiculous.

Hello, Apple! Woohoo, Apple!

Ironic how the fanboy brand has the worst software, worst support, etc. This is my first and last Apple product. Great interface, but that's it. iTunes is a steaming pile, in general.

I have to agree with kwiebe regarding the conversion issue; I've never used the downconvert option and still have this problem after the iOS 6 update (iPhone 4S; iTunes 10.7). Odd thing is, the artwork not appearing seems to be random; of the four specifc places artwork shows (Coverflow in landscape, album list, song list for album, and Now Playing), I have some albums that don't show in Coverflow, and some that don't show in the album list, but all show in both the song list for album and the Now Playing view. And not all of the ones not showing in Coverflow are the same as the ones not showing in the album list (and vice versa). But since the song list for album and the Now Playing view are all I really pay attention to, and since I'll be getting the new iPhone in a couple of weeks anyway, I'm not going to go crazy looking for a solution.

Might be worth noting iTunes itself is supposed to be getting a major facelift soon, so maybe that will address this problem (which I agree is a ridiculous problem in the first place). I can't remember if I had this same problem the last time iOS had a major update, but I know all my artwork was showing up in all the places it's supposed to show up before this update.

This is downright disturbing that within different apps on the phone the symptom changes. What is Apple doing with all of their money? Apparently not product testing.

Some additional info:

I've used mp3tag to compare song file attributes in an attempt to find a pattern for songs which do show their artwork vs. those which do not show it. Nada. Tags and all internal attributes can be exactly the same between art-displaying songs and non-art-displaying songs.

Since Day One after being exposed to iTunes I always had the impression it was coded by somebody's brother-in-law. v10.7 and that impression persists.

Tell me again why I'm supposed to bring offerings to this company?

Sadly, don't count your chickens just yet.

I've done the same, and after a week or two the artwork once again goes off the tracks.

Just now, I had Inara George linked to cover art from Julia Fordham, followed by a John McLaughlin linked to the cover of Synchronicity.

I will try once more this weekend once I finish updating all my devices. The 128K thing hasn't been my experience either - down sample or not, the links still break.

BTW, I downsample because I run ALAC at home, where I can hear the difference, and 128K AAC where the background noise of the street makes HigherFi superfluous, especially balanced against having an additional 3-5K of tunes.

It's good to know that Apple is monitoring this thread so it can edit out derogatory (but richly deserved) comments. I only wish they would put that much effort into fixing their products. Sad.

In truth, products this shoddy which break user data should never even see the light of day. Sure, it can happen. But something like this doesn't happen with good testing. And then months after finding out about it, it's not fixed? No excuse for that, sorry.

I encourage everyone to use the iTunes feedback option to give Apple some much-needed feedback on this.

Edit away, Apple!

Tried installing iOS 6 yesterday and got an error during process and it crashed. Had to restore 4 times to get it up and running again. I had to select sync over wi-fi to do it. Now that it works I'm trying to sync it again but it keeps getting stuck in limbo "Syncing to Artwork". This is ridiculous.

I'd go to the store to get a new phone, but with the new Apple Maps I'd never find it
