Hi new to the ipad and was wondering if you could tether a professional camera to the ipad so clients could see the pictures on the ipad in real time? I know this is possible with a laptop that has lightroom installed but is there a way to either A) install lightroom on the ipad or B) is there another program that can show the preview in real time? Thanks

Considering nobody has an iPad 3 yet, you'll have to wait and see.
You cannot install Lightroom on an iPad. Search the app store for a Canon app.
You can not attach an external camera to the iPad for other purposes, so I don't think you could for this either. But I can see how it would be helpful for a pro, and much easier than lugging a laptop to the shoot. 🙂
If you could tether a 5D MKII to an iPad 2 then you could probably tether one to a new iPad.
I seem to recall a discussion on the DPR (Digital Photograpgry Review) forum discussing this but I can't seem to find that discussion now. The thread seemed to indicate that it was easy to connect a Nikon camera but not so easy for a Canon. But I believe at least one poster on that thread indicated he/she did tether a 5D MKII to an iPad.

there may be an app that allows this if the camera happens to have wifi and you happen to be on the same wifi network. as far as viewing the photos, you can use the camera connection kit to show the photos you just took, but it is not in real time and it requires importing the pictures into the iPad...
To get as real-time as possible, buy an Eye-Fi card and set up a wireless network between it & your iPad. When you shoot, the image is transferred to the iPad immediately.
Thanks Clinton but the Canon 5D doesn't take SD memory cards so the Eye-Fi wouldn't work. Too bad cause it seems like a cool idea.
Thanks everyone for your replies. It looks like using the CCK is the best option at the moment. It won't be real time but at least I can still show my clients at the end before leaving.
There is a cool app called Photosmith that's $17.99 that is good for organizing in the field and then importing into lightroom once you get home. They are releasing a new verson in a couple weeks. Anyone who shoots in the field should check it out. It might be useful to you.
Actually, I use it quite often with my 5D's... just get the CF card adapter. 🙂
Do you use the 5Dmk1? I'm interested in doing this as well but don't really want to shell out $3500 for a new camera when the one I've got works just fine.
Also, which CF card adapter and myfi did you get? I hear the myfi's and the canons can be somewhat picky.

Canon 5DmkII mostly. Using the Eye-Fi Pro|X2 8GB and a generic UDMA CF adapter. If you stay within reasonable distance (10-20ft) it has worked well. Too much farther and it loses connection. From my experience, everything electronic is picky, you just have to figure out your tolerance for it...
