Slide Show

I have Aperture 3.2.2 and am trying to do my first slide show. I created the slide show and it is in the same 'project' as the photos. I dragged and dropped the photos into the slide show. When I deleted a photo from the slide show and emptied the trash the photo disappeared from my folder in the project! This is not good... how do I stop this from happening? Is ther a way I can get the photo back after I emptied thw Aperature trash? I had a backup and use Time Machine.

Thanks for help!

Hi Barbara,

there are two options to delete from a slide show: If you option click on an image in the film strip you get the options

  • Remove from Album (shortcut: delete key)
  • Delete Version (shotcut: cmd-delete key)

If you accidentally deleted the version and moved the version to the Aperture Trash and emptied the Aperture Trash, then you should be able to recover your master image file from the trash bin on your Desktop, unless you emptied that too.

My advice to you: 😝

  • unless you are sure, what pressing the delete key will do, use the menu entries to delete and look at the key bindings in the menu
  • before you empty the Aperture trash, inspect it carefully and use the "put back" pop-up menu entry on any items you trashed accidentally
  • before you empty the System Trash, inspect it.

Regards

Léonie

P.S. See the delete key-bindings in the screen shot below:

Ah OK, nevermind.

Probably my new avatar performing acrobatics to salute your fish is a bit confusing 😁

@ Barbara, we need certainty about the state of your images:

previously you said:

I 'control' clicked and removed the images..instead of deleting them, and I still have them in my original project.

Now you say:

The image is GONE from the PROJECT

Can you give us a screenshot of your project and the SlideShow so we can see the state of your Library?

Barbara -- you've left three mavens muddled. We'd like to help you. In order to do so, we need to know from you:

- what is the current structure of the Project, Folder, and Slideshow Album in question

- exactly what you did, and why

- what happened, and how that differed from what you expected.

My short introduction to Aperture may help clear up some of the confusion. We need to all use the same terms, or else we'll just keep adding to this confusion.

Hi Kirby,

I thought I explained it in my original post. The current structure of the Slideshow Album is in a Project. I dragged and dropped the imagers from 'smart folders' in my project to the Slideshow Album. When I 'deleted' the images from the slide show it showed up in the aperture trash and when I deleted the aperture trash the image disappeared from my project. All of the images were 'versions' from the master. Leonie recommended using option click which on the Mac is control click to get a choice of deleting the image or removing it from the album. I 'removed' the image, so it no longer shows up in the trash as a deleted image would. I still have not recovered the lost images I deleted when I first started. I hope this is clear.

Is there a way to control the 'slider' in the slide show? When I move the cursor it seems attached to it.

Thanks for your help.

Sorry, 😊, I meant to write:

If you Ctrl-click on an image in the film strip you get the options ...
