pc won't recognize ipad

My iPad is not recognized on any computer, when plugging it in using the USB cable. I've tried several different cords, and PC's, with and without iTunes. When I plug it in, nothing happens. It will charge with the plug-in adapter, although, not the 2-amp iPad version, only with an iPod or iPhone charger. Very weird. I want to update to iOS5 but can't because I can't connect to iTunes. And if I restore it, and it still doesn't connect, then I just have a worthless paperweight. Help!

Try turning off iTunes services in the control panel then turn it back on and plug in the iPad to the computer. Some USB ports do not have enough power to them to charge the iPad that might be the charging issue. The first should take care of the syncing issue.

What type of computer do you have a mac or pc?

So you're just getting a blank screen, seems like the device is dead?

Try connecting it to the wall socket if you can, just incase you not getting enough juice through your machine/s. (and sometime the iDevices can take a long time to do anything if the battery is really flat, so be patient)

Try reset it next - hold wake/sleep and home until you see the Apple Logo

No, the screen isn't blank, the iPad is ON, but doesn't do anything at all when you plug it in to signify it's on USB. It's basically no different than when it's sitting on a desk somewhere. The only time I get any reaction is when I plug it in the wall charger (for the iPod, not the iPad type)

I've tried XP and Win-7 machines. Haven't tried a Mac yet, because I don't know anybody with one. But, I've been thru the whole Apple tutorial and troubleshooting steps. I have reset it plenty of times, reset the Network settings, still nothing. I don't want to restore it because I'm afraid after it's restored, that I still won't be able to plug it into iTunes and I'll have a paperweight, basicaly.
