Are you in Full Screen Mode?

If yes, hit the Escape "esc" key.

Move the cursor to the extreme left of the iPhoto Window until it becomes a + and then click and drag right.

A third method is to delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your Home/Library/Preferences folder.
