My ipod touch locked up and I couldn't do anything with it. So, I ran the battery down until it was completely dead and the screen wouldn't come on at all. Then, I charged it. When it came back on, the screen said activation required and it was still locked up.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

Forgot to mention on my previous post that this time I kept hitting "try again" in response to the passcode message. Each time I did that, the time left kept counting down. Finally after about 20 or more times, the time got to zero, so it thought it was done with the update.

Prior to that, when I got the error message, I just hit "cancel" and it thought the update wasn't finished. So, when I went through the process again, it tried to do the update from the start and I would get the passcode error message again.

This time, when I put it into recovery mode and reconnected to iTunes, it let me restore without asking me for the passcode first! I didn't do anything different in the process that I had done the last three times.

I think it's fixed. I really appreciate the help.

Well, iTunes was putting the 160 things back onto her iPod and finished doing that. When the iPod screen came on, the activation required was finally gone, but............the screen is locked up. She can't use the slider bar or do anything with it. So, we are going to run the battery down and hopefully it won't be locked up when we recharge it.

An update: I mailed the iPod in to the extended warranty place. I never buy extended warranties, but did for this because it belongs to a child. They called me just now and told me there was liquid damage. That's not true. There have been no spills on it at all.

I called them back and they said that there is nothing I can do. They won't fix it. Then they asked if I lived in a high humidity area, which I do. Then they said humidity is not covered. I got home and read my warranty. It says:

"What is covered: Enviromental Factors (heat, dust, humidity)"

I called back. They said that's not for every product even though I have it right here in black & white. I paid for a plan that is a scam and very deceptive. Ugh!!!!!!!!!

BTW, it was the Walmart Extended Care plan.

Thanks for the update, though I'm sorry it's not working out for you.

Most "extended warranties" are complete ripoffs and I'm not surprised that you got that response. If it is what I suspect, Wal-Mart contracts with these companies to sell such "extended warranties" whose goal seems to be to take your money and then find a reason to refuse any and all claims. I'm sure Wal-Mart shares culpability in the matter.

You will need to write a very clearly worded letter explaining the reason for your claim and a clear expectation of performance from them. From your description the claim is obviously valid. They will back down.

Another update: I brought the iPod to the Genius Bar. They said there is no physical or liquid damage. They tried a few things to repair it, but none worked. The screen is still frozen and they said that they could not repair it. They think the touch screen is bad:(

I am passing this info on to the warranty company and I'll see what happens.

My iPod is experiencing the exact same issues: screen won't recognize my finger touch, so can't move the slider, can't enter a passcode, and a message states "activation required" as a pop up window on top of my customized homescreen picture.

I am posting to this because my son had the ipod in his pocket and went out to play in the snow. So, extremely likely that it was caused by liquid/water damage.
