My ipod touch locked up and I couldn't do anything with it. So, I ran the battery down until it was completely dead and the screen wouldn't come on at all. Then, I charged it. When it came back on, the screen said activation required and it was still locked up.
Any ideas?

Then talk to your brother about the repair. Don't be surprised if the iPod is bricked.
My daughter's iPod is experiencing the exact same issue: the screen won't recognize my finger touch, so can't move the slider, can't enter a passcode, and a message states "activation required" as a pop up window. Nothing works. We are really frustrated.
