Is anybody else getting a yellowish hue on their new iPad?

Hi guys, i need your help. I just got my new iPad today 4G+Wifi 64GB (white) and i am getting a distinct yellowish hue on my retina display. On my iPad 2 it is clearly much nicer and brighter in terms of the resolution. I was making the two comparisons by using safari and just opening up a blank white page with the brightness tuned to the max on both, i could tell the new iPad is yellowish and the iPad 2 is white and crisp. I mean is apple kidding me? Retina display with more pixels results in yellowish crappy resolution than my iPad 2? Im not sure if i should return this junk back to the apple store or if they do replace me will they give me back the same crappy display. I am stuck in a middle right now as my authorised reseller is currently out of stock and when i called apple support today they were telling me i would have to wait much longer if they have to ship it back to me. This is really ridiculous and i hope if anyone shares the same problem do drop me a reply.

Thanks.

I got mine delivered one day after the launch day i.e. on the 17th march. I called in to apple for a replacement on the 19th march and got the unit collected on the 21 march. Apple told me that my new unit will only arrive on the 11 April. Fortunately I sill have my iPad 2. But my account has already been deducted...also I do not know if the next unit will be trouble free cause I have seen only one good one and many more bad ones when I checked the new iPads at the stores. The good one had a panel that was rather uniform and no yellowish tint. I would not mind a display set than to hope to hit jackpot with apple's lucky draw...

I got my 3rd 64gb wifi model from the San Francisco apple store. This one doesn't have backlight bleeding problem, but now the right and left 1/3 of the screen (when holding in portrait mode) is distinctly yellow. This is supposed to be a shipment made from the china factory a couple of days ago.

Apple, you have a problem. Fix it. Or at least admit it and half your prices so we don't expect perfect devices from you anymore.

So i wanted to get a new iPad at the store today as my old one has the 1/3 yellow issue.

Before i got the iPad, i checked almost all the iPads at the store,.. UNBELIVEABLE,. all of them had the yellowish issue,. i checked almost all of them,.

i stopped myself to get a new one,... my old one will be picked up by apple the next days and its good.

Even at the apple store i didnt see any device without isses,.

To the statistics:

I did my research at the apple store in munich city, maybe anyone can verify?,.. anyway someone already said that he got a device in munich media market and it was also with this issue,.

SO:

about 75% of the tablets in the apple store had exactly the same issue as mine,. 1/3 yellowish from left to right in landscape mode(depending on the rotation)

the rest i saw was yellowish at any border, fading to white up to the middle,.

The white tablets seemed more OK than the black ones,. but i think its just randomly,

i really tested almost all of them,. as another user also had their fun with it,.

I didnt get my new tablet, disappointed already on the testing exemplars,.

I saw only one tablet in the store which seemed ok,. it had the yellowish tone all over it, it looked OK,. i would accept it,.. BUT why the **** almost all tablets had this tone not consistent,.

I already dont know whats right or wrong,. but i guess the yellowish might be right as they changed the color specifications,. but it doesnt excuse why the tone isnt the same all over the tablet. It did really differ alot on every tablet,.

Im disappointed alot,. i will not buy any tablet right now,. i will wait some weeks till the new LCDs are out,. hope this will improve the product,.

BTW: I talked to an apple operator these days,. he did exactly know what i mean, the problem is well known,. anyway he just told me to send it back,.

What i still dont understand,. i talked at the apple store about this issue,. they were kind of surprised when i showed them,. but what the ****, they work there about 8 hours a day and didnt se this issue on the test exemplars?,... very disappointed,..

feeling they kidding me,. like they have orders to react on such customers reactions etc,..

im done for now,.

my advice,. give it back if you dont like it,. the tone doesnt seem to change,. the tablets at the apple store are running 100% day and night, and i could still see the issues on all of them as i said,.

already talked too much,. dont wanna troll around,.

enough apples this week,.

will try some pears or oranges

Walnuss, I think you are the first person to that every unit you saw in an Apple store has yellow screens. Mostly it's it's been the opposite: someone takes an iPad to the store and does not see the problem on store models.

I'm going to visit my local Apple store - actually, there are three within two miles of my house! - and I'll be interested in what I see and maybe I can add my own report here.

Well, further to my couple of posts here, I have to say that my yellow cast has almost completely disappeared. There is one tiny - for want of a better word - smudge in the top left corner that just creeps into the Google bar when held in landscape mode but it's less than half the size it was just two days ago. I really do think the yellowing is mostly down to adhesive. Considering how quickly these things were packed, shipped and delivered it's hardly surprising.

The ones being sent out now as replacements are likely from the same batches and are therefore a week or so old. The adhesive has had that week to cure and disappear. No doubt a lot of the faulty ones, had they sat in a box for a week or so, would also be showing the same lack of yellowing.

Is the colour balance in general more 'right' than before? That's an entirely subjective argument I think and one that every one of us will have a different answer for. I notice one post in this thread that the guy uses his iPad 2 (or original iPad) as a mobile photo portfolio and wouldn't be happy using the new iPad for the same thing since it shifts the colours way off. Since the iPad 2 (and probably the original iPad) also shifts the colour spectrum but in a different direction I'm tempted to say that maybe an iPad isn't a device to be professionally used in this way. Maybe the colours are warmer than the iPad/iPad 2 but maybe they were too cool? If my photos look better on the new iPad I know which I'd prefer to use to show them off......even it is just down to colour tweaking 😁

After more study, my observations:

1/ my new ipad does have better saturation. This is clear from the color chart posted a couple pages unthread.

2/ my iPad 2 has a slight red push. I actually don't mind this. Of course I don't use it for professional purpose.

3/ the new iPad has warmer yellowish white. This conforms better to d65 standards but I dislike it. I use neutral white whenever possible, and would rather have temp be cooler rather than warmer. I kind of wish apple would give you some minimal color adjustment so everyone can be pleased. But I guess that's not the apple way.

4/ the new iPad has poorer screen uniformity. I don't know if this is an issue that will go away. I've been running it at max brightness 24hr for 4 days.

RIght now, I'm inclind to return it o so early problems get resolved. I'll rebuy it later. This will let more devs update their apps for the retina display.

iDave,

if you have the chance, please check as many devices as you can,. please check them in landscape mode and check the keyboard,. check the saturation then from left to right,.

i can tell you, i really tested the iPads in the store intensively,. i really saw these issues,.

please check if you see any differences at keyboard between left and right in landscapce mode,. please also take care if the middle looks much brighter on any models,. its also easy visible on the keyboard,.

thanks, Walnuss

im still not the apples quality control, which i think su_cks

I got a black 64 gig ATT.

The yellow hue is very obvious. My Lilac point Siamese is my lock picture. Her white fur looks yellow. Side by side with the iPad 2 the difference is shocking.

Apple Retail is great, but I am now on my third iPad 3 and they all have the same yellow. Things that should be white look old and yellowed, like reminders, settings, safari pages.

I hope the glue thing is true because otherwise I am bailing on the 3.

Mar 24, 2012 1:55 PM in response to crh24

So I bailed on waiting for the empty box and just returned it to the retail store which is about 20 miles from me. The Genius saw the yellow right away and actually took it in the back to confirm. When he returned he said that the hue was in stripes - ie blue then yellow then blue yellow - I hadn't noticed that before. I don't know what he did back there but I did get a brand new retail box 32gb AT&T 4g white and it's perfect! They did want to submit the diagnostics for my old one which he also had to run in the back to do. Seems like they are well aware of this issue. Don't live with this if you are having the same problem as me. Return it! BTW my local store was the Natick MA location. Thanks to all....

Mar 24, 2012 7:46 PM in response to lindon85

I bought my Verizon 64GB on launch day and noticed the left side of the screen was more yellow than the middle and right side when in portrait. I showed it to a few of the geniuses and they said to give it a week to settle in. As of yesterday I didn't really notice any improvement so I took it back this morning. The genius I worked with said he definitely saw it and went to get a new one to swap it out.

The second one had a really strong yellow tint to the upper portion of the display close to the camera, about 1/3 of the screen. Definitely worse than the one I had just returned. So, I told them it still wasn't right and they hesitated on exchanging another, instead saying they preferred to just refund me. The genius got the store manager and he said they can't keep opening new boxes to check (my wife got mad at that) but they would do one more swap.

The third one is pretty similar to the first one I had, with the left side a bit yellow in portrait. It's better but I still notice it. The manager said that he noticed some yellow on his new iPad from launch day but doesn't any more, so he suggested I hold on to it for two weeks and return it then if it isn't better.

I'm on the fence right now if it doesn't get better. I did check the display models in the store and all of them had various extents of yellowing. Not sure what to do...

Is anybody else getting a yellowish hue on their new iPad?
