Is anybody else getting a yellowish hue on their new iPad?

LCD's are not as prone to burn-in as other technologies. It's only 24+ hours 🙂

If the iPad can't take the same kind of usage as a Apple store (all day, every day) then it's good to find out right away, while it's still under warranty.

My goal was to help reduce the yellow tint in the screen... and for me it helped.

iPads can take up running this long. They are treated the same way in stores. Maybe this way they look good as they get burned in a lot faster. Could be.

However mine bothered me in terms of maximum brightness and still being warm showing grey tones more brownish. The whites were ok compared to a calibrated screen.

So I took it back to the store to claim the brightness issue. Indeed it was slightly dimmer than any other compared. I raised my concerns about the exchange getting a worse tinted display so that the genius tech told me that I have only ONE shot for an exchange and thats it. The stores now seem to change policy for the exchange when it comes to screen tints. He luckily agreed to fire up the exchange model to have a glimpse if its ok. I tell you: It was WORSE. A slight red tint could be seen across the lower half diagonally. He could not see it. Luckily a friend of mine came in after and confirmed the same without even telling anything.

I kept the old one and wait again.

This cant go on forever. Apple has to get their act together and pull the trigger on this issue. Unifom tints might be not a fault but partial ones are definately a no no. I mean having slight production variations is a normal thing but having issues with dust, dead pixels, bleeding, tints, WiFi, temperatures and brightness......come on! This list is really long. The sad story: The first time adopters get the device and as a "normal" consumer are happy owning the product. Most of them wont notice the flaws.

The first time since 2009 owning a couple of iDevices I am dissapointed. I like the company and its products but running into a store having fears for an exchange device makes me feel really sad and angry.

I brought my new iPad back to Best Buy and got myself a 16 GB iPad 2. It is going to take a bit of time to get used to the reduction in resolution. I am actually going to have to zoom in on webpages with tiny print now. But the screen is uniform and bright. The funny thing is, it seems a little more yellowish than my last new iPad which was white in the areas where it wasn't grey. But It's just a bit warmer than my iPad 1, and it might not fade over time. It doesn't matter to me either way. It isn't the same yellow screen that a couple of my new iPad exchanges had. And screen uniformity is a lot more important to me than the overall tint. Interestingly enough, I figured that Apple was just selling off their remaining iPad 2 stock. But my iPad 2 was made last week, just like my last two new iPads. So apparently they are still making the 16 GB iPad 2 model.

In the end, I just couldn't stand the thought of staying on the exchange train for new iPads. The fact that I had six with screen issues is a total turnoff. I hope that Apple can improve on the quality of the new iPad. Maybe the Sharp screens will be better than the Samsung and LG screens...

Same problem here. Nothing solves, but I am hoping for a software update from Apple. The same issue does not occur in portrait mode (try it with your screen rotation locked), so it must be a software issue.

I have also exchanged 3 ipads. First had uneven brightness. Second ipad had half the screen yellow tint. Third had patches of pink tint at corners of the screen. Waiting for the forth replacement to arrive.

Totally disappointed with the new ipad. Bought it because of the higher resolution screen, but the screen obviously have problems.

Looking at so many people exchanging their ipad so many times (including myself). The screen of the new ipad definately have some issues.

Have any body emailed Apple directly regarding the screen tint issues

With more people giving feedback, they might do something about it.

Since it seems it's a new group of people wandering in this thread, I just wanted to pitch with what I learned, or think I learned, in since I had this issue as well.

I was lucky enough to get a great iPad screen on my second replacement.

1. 32 or 64 GIG's makes no difference, as some posters were wondering. My brother got a great 64 GIG on the first try, and it took me two tries to get a perfect 32 GIG. ( Some people are having the opposite experience )

2. I have not seen a new iPad that is as cool as the iPad2, so don't bother with that comparison. By design, the new iPads are warmer. BUT ... warmer does not mean super ugly, brown-greys producing screens. The new iPad will probably be a little bit more yellow than an iPad2, but it should not be extreme.

3. When you do get a good screen, you'll be very happy. So, don't give up and definitely DO NOT settle.

Good luck and I really hope this is happening to just a few of us. I think there is a lot of truth in the fact that most people out there won't notice, but for those of us that do ... this is a pain. My previous iPad and iPhone models were all excellent from the start.

My 5 bucks to the discussion. I also was a bit upset with the purple links in Mail and Safari, but suddenly found in my Photo Stream on Aperture a Safari screenshot made on my old iPad 2 - and the links there were true purple! Not blue at all!

This proves that they are actually purple, and rendering is more true on the New iPad rather on iPad 2.

It's got to do with the cure process of the glue that holds the glass screen in. Basically, whenever they manufacture products in bulk, this can happen because there's not enough time for it to cure properly. Give it a week and it should go away.

This is not the glue. IPad screen is not glued in the same way as it was with iPhone screens. Simply check iPad teardown on ifixit.com and you can see a big difference between two devices. So, yellow tint will never go away. My retailer has 30 day exchange/return policy and i awaited about 3 weeks to see is there any changes in yelowish tint. Nothing happens. Dont spend yor time it doesnt cure the problem.

I am yet so sad again to see there are one shot lucky ones out there. My collegue got his first 16GB 4G Black and we compared side by side. Besides my apparent problem in terms of max. brightness you can once again see the nice difference between those 2 models side by side. Which one would you prefer?

This issues keeps me busy. I am not at the point to fully accept what I have. I am not happy yet. This bothers me really.

BTW:Mine is the 100% battery loaded one.

A buddy of mine picked up a new iPad on Thursday and he was excited to show it to me. I hadn't told him any of my tales of woe. This iPad had the whitest, most uniform screen I have seen on any new iPad up to this point. I was showing him the speedtest app. Because the speedtest app is an iPod app, it was small and in the center of the screen, and all around it was black. We were in a moderately lit room, and he had the brightness set to around 60%. I could see light bleed all along the bottom and left side. It was pretty bad. I have never seen light bleeding that bad. I usually don't care about it because while it shows up with brightness cranked up to full in a dark room, I never have brightness above 70%, and I usually don't do stuff in a completely dark room. It showed up as four brighter clouds along the bottom, and five or so along the left. He did not notice it, so I didn't point it out. I looked up the serial number, and it was a week 15 model. So they are shipping them to the Apple store as quickly as they're rolling off the assembly line.

But it is looking like fewer and fewer of the ones in the later weeks are yellowish. My last two before I gave up were white, they were just uneven grey in some areas.

So maybe wait a few weeks and try again? The bad thing is then that the refurbished ones will return into the cycle. So then we are at point 0 again with the bad tinted panels.

You're only going to get a refurb if you buy one on purpose, or if you exchange a defective one. My question is, will Apple replace the screen before sending it out as a refurb? Or seeing as most of these defects are within their so called specs, will they send them out as is?
