New iPad with dust under screen

So I just got a brand new today. Boot up the gorgeous screen, go through the setup, reach a white screen and...

Nice big old piece of dust dead center on the screen. Tried cleaning it and rubbing it to no avail.

I know Apple is usually pretty good with sending you a replacement but should I expect a long wait for my brand new iPad I received today. Should I expect to wait 2-3 weeks for a new iPad or does apple usually expedite issues like this?

I'm reviving this thread, because apparently the quality control at Apple hasn't gotten the message. I bought an iPad Air 2 which was almost perfect, due to a couple specks of dust I found under the screen within the black borders.. I figured since the white specks weren't directly on the pixel portion of the screen, I wasn't going to make a big deal out of it.. several months later, I decide to buy the iPad Pro 9.7 inch. I clean the screen meticulously before putting on a screen protector and notice a nicely sized white speck of dust I can't seem to clean off... at first, I wasn't sure what I was looking at, and thought it might have been a dead pixel.. but further google searches suggest dead pixels don't display when the screen is off... alas I found this thread...

2 iPads with dust under the screen, and the pro model has it under the pixel portion... my tolerance for this crap only goes so far... you spend a lot of money on Apple products to find out you can't only get a flawless device by constant returns and exchanges... and I say that after exchanging two Series 2 Apple watches due to defects, and finally giving up and returning the 3rd for a refund.... I'm really losing my respect for this company...

Djnardu-

Show your iPad to an Apple Store Genius and you should get a replacement on the spot if the Genius can not fix it.

If there is no Apple Store near you, look for an Apple Authorized Repair Center. There may be one in your city. <Apple Authorized Repair Centers> The repairman should be able to disassemble the screen and clean out the dust. If not, you may have to wait for a replacement. I would guess it would take as long as it takes to arrive from China!

Hi,

I have the same problem. I took my iPad to apple store and get offered to replace it right away. But they cannot do engraving which I had on my original one. So they gave me idea to return my iPad online to apple and request for replacement. And I bought a temporary 16 GB iPad from Apple store which I will be return to Them when the new replacement one comes. He said he would take the temporary one back even after one month if my replacement takes long time to come. So bottom line is go to the store. If you don't have engraving on your iPad then they can replace right away.

I've also had way too many instances of dust under the screen. I've probably looked at at least 7 new iPads now and each one had dust under the screen (and the only that didn't have dust had a cluster of dead pixels!). After the first instance I made sure to open each new one in the Apple store and the sales associate or genius bar member with me each time agreed that there was foreign material under the screen and that I shouldn't accept the problem if it bothers me (which it does considering how much money I'm spending on the iPad). I currently don't have a new iPad because I'm sick of buying and returning them and a genius bar member suggested I wait a few weeks to see if the manufacturing is improved (he didn't have any inside knowledge suggesting Apple would be tweaking the manufacturing but just suggested it could happen if Apple discovers that dust under the screen is an issue).

All of my issues were with the 64gb Verizon model. Are people experiencing dust problems with other models as well?

Same problem here - dust behind screen. I'm speculating whether I should take it back. Also, the screen seems to be 'collapsed', when I look at the edges, the gaps in the middle seem to be bigger vs. the corners, so the side looks like a "C". I'd imagine that's how the dust gets in. Otherwise, it's perfect, no WiFi issues, holds the charge, close to zero light bleed (which any LCD screen is expected to have anyway).

Based on the stories of multiple replacements being defective, maybe I'll just stick to this one... Found the dust two days ago - I almost stopped paying attention to it now.

My third iPad arrived at the service centre. I checked this one before leaving and screen faulty straight away. Now waiting for iPad #4. My first post on this thread didn't specify the screen faults .... #1 was dust under glass; #2 was dead pixels; #3 had an intense unshifting bright spot about the size of 1/2 a small coin (fault categorized under screen uniformity). For an item bought on the release date nearly a month ago I've not yet got to use it.... white 64gb wifi only..... no apple store in region for immediate exchange and stores don't have replacement stock so I have to wait for replacements through the service centre. I hope these un-boxed replacements are new stock ... how can I tell? I can't help thinking I'm getting recirculating stock the result of multiple unboxings at apple stores in search of good units.
