3rd gen iPad lock button seems very fragile

Both my husband and I got the new third generation iPads today. Both of them (one white, one black) had lock slide buttons that are very weak, wobbly, and fragile-feeling. I can actually see the button moving and separating from the outside case. It is very disturbing!

The on/off button on the top also seems very unstable.

I'm guessing since we've seen this on both our iPads that this is a common occurrence. Can anyone else concur?

Quality control? It seems like that or a design flaw. We ordered our iPads 10 hours after pre-sales opened and they were already in Pennsylvania when we got the first shipping notice a day or two later...maybe we got some early ones. Mine is also freezing very often. Genius Bar appt. tomorrow about that. 😟

I wonder if they would cover a replacement/fix if it broke within the warranty timeframe. There have been other physical design flaws that they never owned up to in that manner.

Certainly if it broke during the warranty period, Apple should fix it.

Sounds like you got a couple of lemons judging from the problems you are describing. I would ask about warranty coverage on the entire unit, and it could not hurt to ask for a complete replacement. However, given the demand, you may not get the replacements right away. So much for ordering early, eh? Good luck and please post your experiences going forward.
