The New iPad will not sync all photo's

If you are doing the (1) folder method, you'll need to verify and cross check PC and iPad to make sure all pics within each folder that you just sync made it.

I find that it helps to use a block of 10 or 20 pics to sync, that makes checking easier.

It is a manual and time consuming process, but it might work for you.

Just got off the phone with Apple support. Somehow the sync now seems to work. I'll repost if the problem reoccurs. Here's what we did:

1. Disconnect iPad

2. Launch iTunes. Under Edit/Preferences/Devices, check "Prevent...from syncing automatically"

3. Close iTunes

4. Reopen iTunes

5. Reconnect iPad

6. Right-click on the iPad's name and choose "Reset warnings"

7. Unsync photos to clear iPad Photos store

8. Reselect folders (I have multiple folders) and sync again. All 1786 photos transferred.

Let me know whether that works for you.

Result: photos are synched. However, in several folders, they are not shown in the order of Date Taken as they should be. It seems that iTunes is patchy at reading the EXIF data in photos and gets confused. I use Windows Live Photo Gallery which shows them in the correct date order.

I've tried all different methods and the only solution for me is the 1 folder method. I've gone through my photos and do not appear to have any corrupt files.

I personally still believe it's the way iTunes is syncing, if you watch the memory doing the 1folder method, when you've synced so many photos when you click the next folder to be synced iTunes starts showing the actual photo file/folder size rather than the optimised size, therefore if you click several other folders they won't be transferred as iTunes/the iPad doesn't think there's enough storage. If you first allow the folder to sync before clicking others you will see the memory drop back down to the optimised size. This is what's happening in my case anyway.

I have done exactly this so many times I can't keep track of the number. I too have multiple folders and have managed to transfer all except one which it refuses to sync. Also one of the folders only transfers about half of the photos and that's after many syncs.

Am still convinced this is an iPad 3 specific issue as my iPad 2 and iPhones sync just fine

You should consider using alternative photo viewers / album apps. I recommend Photo Manager Pro the most, particularly if your shots have location data in them and/or you want to reduce storage usage. You won't encounter any sync problems with it.

Exactly how are you doing it? Are you still synching via the Photos tab and, then, from the third-party app, you import your images from there, or, are you synching directly, via iTunes File Sharing (not to be confused with synching via the Photos tab!) directly (and only) to the third-party app?

Needless to say, the latter should be used (with a viewer that does support File Sharing).

I am syncing via the Photos tab. I do not have a third-party photo manager (but after all this, I am seriously considering buying Photo Manager Pro). The price does not deter me (it is only US$3) but I am deterred by the thought of having to use third-party file sharing, so that the files won't be accessible to other apps. It is a bit like the choice between using iBooks to look at PDFs and using a third party app like iAnnotate (which is much more functional).

You can always export any images from PMP via Edit / (select any number of imgs) / Export / to Photos. Then, these images become available to all apps capable of accessing the Camera Roll, incl. the stock Photos.

Sounds like a lot of effort - if native Photos worked properly I wouldn't have to do that. Presumably exporting from PMP creates a copy of the file which uses up more memory too.

Part of these restrictions are caused by Apple's phobia of open folder structures - in an open world, files created by one app would be available to all other apps without importing/exporting. Probably for a similar reason, there are no sub-albums (sub-folders) in Photos - so all my folder structure for photos (year/month/date) gets collapsed into one album when I sync it to the iPad.

One-level folders are supported by Photos. That is, if you give iTunes a folder with one-level (no further children in them) subfolders to sync, it'll transfer the existing folder structure. A crude "solution" can be reorganizing your folder struct to have separate folders for each day, named YYYY-mm-dd or the like.

Of course, it's far from perfect. Third-party apps are so much better in this respect (too) and, as usual, shame on Apple to make such a restricted system.

Um....gee.....isn't all of this a bit ridiculous when Apple products are, ahem, "simply magical", and ahem, "just work"? The bottom line reply to all of these proposed workarounds: WE SHOULDN'T FREAKING HAVE TO!!!!!!!!!
