The New iPad will not sync all photo's

I picked up the new iPad yesterday at the Apple store and am having a problem getting it to sync all of my photo library.

Im using iTunes on Windows 7 to sync the "My Pictures" folder to the iPad.

It will sync some but not all of the folders in the "My Pictures". I have deleted the "iPod Photo Cache" folder, that did not help.

I have 2 iPhones and 2 older iPad 1's which sync the photo's just fine.

Hey guys, same problem here! Reset my ipad 3 from scratch and no luck either on my end. I spoke to Tech Support and they had me do the same with my ipad 2, and no problem for ipad 2. Problem for syncing photos is only with ipad 3. They noted the problem and told me to erase all and restore to factory settings and it should be working. But it still isn't.

Amazed to find so many people with the same issue.

I just realized that I posted the wrong info, I did NOT ever used iPhoto.
One of my co-worker did, but ended up with the same trouble.

iPhoto does add an extra dimension to the problem, and reinstalling it might help in some cases.

HOWEVER, reproducing the problem is extremely easy, and that is 90% of of the solution for Apple to fix it (believe me I am in the software business, and although I am only a few miles away from Apple headquarter, I cannot help ;-)

1- take a new PC with a clean install of the latest current Windows (7 64 bits)
2- download and install the latest current iTune v10.6.0.40
3- create a photo directory composed of 50 or so large photos from DSLR (mine came from Nikon D300 and D7000, same with Canon)
4- try to sync it with the new iPad, you will fail after a dozen or so.
5- try to sync the same photo directory with any iPhone 4 or 4s, or any iPad 1 or 2, you will always be successful

Again, don't even involve iPhoto for that test, and yes you can try reset/reboot the iPad, reset sync in iTune, or delete/rebuild the iPod Cache, none of these steps will fix it.

I am confident Apple will fix it soon.

Cheers.

Does apple read these forums? It sounds like not a single person has heard from apple saying "a fix is coming"

Not really, these are "self help" forums. While a lot of apple employees may or may not be here this is not a official channel to communucate problems to Apple.

Its why you need to do a feedback or contact support directly.

Sorry, but that doesn't work for me. My Photostream is turned off and my new iPad still can't sync more than 189 out of 3,100 photos. After 189 photos, is just stops period. No idea why. But will be following up later today with tech support. I really hope Apple ocmes out with a fix for this.

I was so looking forward to showing clients my photos on the new ipad. This is a serious issue right now for me.

Okay, guys...here's the deal. Apple walked me through this, and while I have no clue WHY it works, it did work.

First, they had me delete all of the Apple software. (Directions below)

Then, they had me reinstall iTunes from the website.

Then, I created a new folder for iPad photos. (I already had one set up, but this was a second one.)

Sync the iPad with the new iTunes.

Put 10 or so pictures from your big basket of photos into the new iPad Photos folder and sync iTunes/iPad with the NEW iPad Photos folder. When these have successfully transfered over, put 10 or so more into the NEW folder, sync, and so on, until they are all in there.

It did work...it was a pain, but it did.

Here are the directions for removing all Apple software: (Taken from the page the tech directed me to.)

**Note** I had to go into and manually remove dll files, and quit said programs through the Task Manager, as they were hidden and running in the background. Follow ALL directions perfectly, or you will run the risk of screwing up your system. It takes time...

Overview

In some rare instances, it may be necessary to remove all traces of iTunes, QuickTime, and related software components from your computer before reinstalling iTunes. For most technical issues though, reinstalling iTunes is an unnecessary and overused troubleshooting step. If you are directed to reinstall iTunes by AppleCare, a Knowledge Base article, or an alert dialog, you can do so by following the steps in this article.

Notes:

 iTunes Store purchases or songs imported from CDs are saved in your My Music folder by default and are not deleted by removing iTunes. While it is highly unlikely that you will lose any contents of your iTunes Library when following these steps, it is always a good idea to ensure that your iTunes library is backed up. If you're unsure how to backup, see iTunes: Back up your iTunes library by copying to an external hard drive.

 These steps may take a significant amount of time to complete, depending on your system.

Steps

1. Remove iTunes and related components from the Control Panel

Use the Control Panel to uninstall iTunes and related software components in the following order and then restart your computer:

1. iTunes

2. QuickTime

3. Apple Software Update

4. Apple Mobile Device Support

5. Bonjour

6. Apple Application Support (iTunes 9 or later)

Important: Uninstalling these components in a different order, or only uninstalling some of these components may have unintended affects.

If you need more detailed steps on removing these components, refer to the following steps:

2. Verify iTunes and related components are completely uninstalled

In most cases removing iTunes and its related components from the Control Panel will remove all supporting files belonging to those programs. In some rare cases those though, files may be left behind. After following the previous steps, you should confirm that the following files and folders have been removed. If any are left behind, remove them now:

 C:\Program Files\Bonjour

 C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\

 C:\Program Files\iTunes\

 C:\Program Files\iPod\ Note: Follow the additional steps at the end of this article if you receive the alert "Cannot delete iPodService.exe: It is being used by another person or program" when trying to delete this folder.

 C:\Program Files\QuickTime\

 C:\Windows\System32\QuickTime

 C:\Windows\System32\QuickTimeVR

If you have a 64-bit version of Windows, you will need to confirm that the following folders have been removed as well:

 C:\Program Files (x86)\Bonjour

 C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Apple\

 C:\Program Files (x86)\iTunes\

 C:\Program Files (x86)\iPod\ Note: Follow the additional steps at the end of this article if you receive the alert "Cannot delete iPodService.exe: It is being used by another person or program" when trying to delete this folder.

 C:\Program Files (x86)\QuickTime\

 C:\Windows\SysWOW64\QuickTime

 C:\Windows\SysWOW64\QuickTimeVR

Thanks for these great directions!

Questions: Once you removed all these files and reinstalled them, how did it affect your iPad when you plugged it in for the first time?

How many photos did you sync altogether?

I wonder if this would have worked simply by deleting the iPod cache and doing the slow, methodical move of photos, ten at a time. It seems to me that most of the time, even now, iTunes will sync a small number of photos.

Interesting situation. I have just read through the post in its entirety for the first time today. The one common thread that seems to be here is that this is happening with Windows 7 PCs. Am I wrong on this? Has anyone here been experiencing this inability to sync photos with a Mac? Does operating system and/or version make any difference?
