The New iPad will not sync all photo's

10 photos at the time is not a solution, the basic problem remains for every body with many folders of 50+ photos totaling 1,000+ photos.

So the fact remains that nobody manged to sync all photos with the new iPad on the current iTune for the current Windows 7, when your photo folder contains 50+ large photos from DSLRs.

Don't waste time re-installing if itune if syncing your photos works fine with any other Apple product (iPhone, iPod, or iPad).

It didn't affect the iPad at all when I resynced for the first time. Same with the iPod(s). Haven't done the iPhone yet. iTunes worked the same, too...

I only had about 165 photos, ranging in size from thumnails to 5500x3500. All are jpgs.

I tried to do the cache thing, but it didn't work for me.

I'm not sure if you really have to do the whole delete thing, but I tried the shorter ways, and for me, it didn't work. There seemed to be some conflict with old software lurking about in the computer, plus there was some sort of confusion with iTunes and the different photos (that's why it worked better to do 10 or so at a time).

I have now created many albums, and hope that that won't further confuse iTunes--I guess I'll find out 🙂

cassos, it worked for me, and at least that's a partial fix. I know they are aware of the issue, and are probably working on it, but at least for now, we can get those pix on there.

I could sync my photos with my iPhone before, so the glitch wasn't with iTunes+iPhone...

This problem was only with the new iPad.

Yup, I'm working on Windows 7...

Also, I'm sure you can try to transfer them in bigger batches. If it doesn't work, just lessen the batch. I didn't have that many to transfer over, so 10-15 at a time was no big deal.

Thanks from the detailed reply Kpwww. However I'll be honest in that it may be a workaround, but not a fix. I have almost 10,000 photos and syncing a 10 picture at a time batch over 1000 times is not a realistic option, It would take hours upon hours, and I got my iPad to make things easier, not 100 times more complicated.

Did they mention anything that they were aware of the glitch or that it will be fixed in the future?

I totally understand that it's not ideal, but hey, the way I see it, it's something we can do while they work on the real fix. The higher level tech support seemed to know that this was an issue, but the introductory tech support had not heard about it.

It was recommended that I do 10 or so at a time, in case the glitch was a corrupt photo file (so that you can more easily track down which was the bad file). I was able to do 15 or 20, but since that was outside of their parameters, I didn't recommend it here. I imagine that you can probably do more, but since I only had 165 to transfer, and the transfer went very smoothly and quickly, it wasn't a biggie.

But yes, I totally agree. It's a workaround, but at least it's something...I hate it when we are left with nothing while they work on the ultimate fix to a problem 🙂

And it kept me distracted from doing the work I was supposed to be doing today...which was a plus. haha.

Oh, and I wanted to note that the first "fix" they came up with was to lessen the size of the files. This was not an option for me--I got this retina display so I could zoom in on my photos, not so I could be limited. It was after I had my little stomp-my-feet-in-frustration fit that they moved my complaint up to the next level.

(The second tech I talked to tried to tell me that the retina display could only display images up to 1920x1080. Wha'???)

Eager to see how this turns out. I'm having the same issue: Windows 7, new iPad, latest version of iTunes, thousands of photos to sync. Workarounds are good info but with as many photos as I have, I just want syncing to work as advertised. No problems with my old iPad or iPhone 4s, just the new iPad. With the new retina display, I was really looking forward to seeing my photos in all their splendor. Hard to believe Apple messed up on something so elementary and so fundamental.

I didn't yet speak to tech support but here's a very interesting thing that happened. I just connected my new ipad to my other mac pro desktop (the one I have at home), and no problems syncing all photos. It copied all 3,000 photos to my new ipad without a glitch.

So there's something wrong with iTunes or iPhoto on my other mac pro desktop (the one at work) that's preventing me from copying more than 190 out of 3,000 photos.

That would suggest that it isn't just a Windows 7 issue, correct?

Recapping the exact scope of the problem:

#1 only the new iPad 3d generation (not any other iPad, iPod or iPhone)

#2 current iTune on the current Windows (version 7 and possibly older version) where photos are managed/stored in the so called "iPod Photo Cache" folder, but there are no problem on any Mac which manages photos differently. Finally, it is not related to the iPhoto application on the iPad.

#3 when you have over a dozen (let's say 50) fairly large photos involved on your next sync.

Now on the fun side:

- as enthusiast photographer with good Nikon equipment, I am very excited by the new iPad resolution and software to preview and sort. This was actually a major use case in the new iPad preview at the release time. Now it is ironic that the photograph amateurs with nice pictures to bring in and enjoy are the first one to suffer :-)

- it is known that way more than 70% if the iPad/iPhone/iPod users are syncing with iTune on Windows instead of a Mac. However, most of the problems on any new release of iTune, or iXxxx devices happen with Windows version of iTune. Once can blame Windows, or perhaps priority management on Apple QA side :-)

Anyway, patience guys, it is a bug, it is not the first time for iTune on Windows, but I trust Apple will address it soon.

BTW: I love the Apple products, and have pretty much all of them, but my desktops are on Windows or Linux, sorry :-)

This is not limited to windows. I am having the same problem with the new IPad and an IMac.

Has anyone tried copying photos from one folder on your computer to a new folder that was renamed something else and then syncing?

I had the same issue. This was my work around which did work. I had a total of 8 picture folders with a total of 1,582 photos combined. ( one folder contained 837 photos )

I did this in order:

1) open specific photo folder on your computer ( ie holiday photos )

2) select all photos in this file /folder

3) copy all photos

4) create new folder and name something else (ie - Holiday Ipad )

5) open new folder ( ie:Holiday Ipad) and paste photos/contents into new folder ( I did this for each folder)

6) hook up Ipad 3, select one folder (ie: holiday Ipad) at a time and sync.

7) next I kept the I pad hooked up to computer and selected next photo folder and sync.

8) only took a few minute and photos with folders transferred to Ipad.

I do not sync all my photos, just specific folders that I have created that holds the photos I want on my Apple products.

I also have several Apple products and have not encountered this problem prior with any of my other devices.

I did NOT delete any thing from my computer, I did NOT dump everything. I did have Iphoto on my New I pad (3rd generation ) before I added my photos. I also did NOT re-size any of my photos. I only had taken one photo with my new Ipad which was on camera roll, prior to doing photo transfer.

My photos came from several sources, some from a Nikon camera, some that were transferred from other places and some from other Apple products.

I bought the new iPad 3 days ago only to run into the same syncing issues - never had this problem before with my iPad 2. After a couple of hours on the phone with Apple Tech Support he said it might be a faulty harddrive in the iPad. I returned to Best Buy to exchange it for another one only to encounter the same syncing issues. I have narrowed it down to a few things - might be iPhoto in some way - I store all of my music and photos on a portable 1tb harddrive and any time I select a picture folder from the harddrive it will not sync - states there isn't enough space on the iPad to sync the selected items - if I uncheck the Photos it syncs perfect.
