Poor wifi reception on new iPad

I am in a hotel with my laptop and new ipad3. The laptop wifi reception is as strong as it gets, but the iPad only registers a weak signal. Anyone else having similar problems? Any suggestions?

I hope so

Having problems with dropouts and loss of wifi signal on new iPad that don't occur with my iPad1. This happens to me both at home (with my Airport Express) and at work using the University's wifi. Typically signal starts out strong when new iPad is turned on but disappears or becomes so weak that refreshing web pages is extremely slow or does not occur. iPad1 works fine under same circumstances. Problem seems to go away when, at home, I move into the room with the Airport Express. When reception is weak or drops out if I go to Settings, I see the network has been dropped. I have the impression that the signal is improved if I position the iPad so the connector end is uppermost.

These descriptions may not help but it appears to me that the reception is just poorer. Maybe something I just have to live with or use another Airport Express to extend the range of the one I'm presently using, although I understand this drops the speed of the connection.

I can get you speed data this evening if it would help.

Here is a dump from the speedtest app run on my iPad1 and new iPads. I wish I had run the test a few more times from my original new iPad, but the connections dropped so often I didn't think to keep trying speed tests. I probably should have run more tests with the replacement new iPad on the DIR-655, but after I verified it held connections better, I rushed ahead and updated my network to the AirPort Extremes.

Note that I was having some issues with Comcast and my network on 1/24 and 1/25. Had a really interesting issue there....PG&E was having power issues in my neighborhood, and we were only getting about 102V of service, instead of the normal 120V. My UPSs were all reporting this low power condition and at the same time, I was getting hideous Internet throughput. PG&E fixed the power degradation and Internet performance came back immediately. Something about the low power seems to correlate to degrading Internet performance, but I don't have any specifics on why - either my equipment or Comcasts degraded.

Note that the replacement new iPad is pretty consistently faster than the iPad1 was, even on the best days with the iPad1.

I have had problems with wifi on my new ipad also. I was going tp head to the Mac store tomorrow and demand help, however I noticed I was having similar problems on my Mac. So I called tech support and my cable company, and actually got ahold of a Mac Guy. He was able to reset my router and help me reset my computer. The computer is running much faster and continuously now, so also is my iPad. Thanks cable one and a knowledgable Mac Guy to assist. He had had the same problems with his Macs. I am a happy camper once again.

Try customer support and your internet service provider! they fixed my problem. I was having problems with both my Mac Desktop and my new ipad. Not both are up and running great. Good luck. I want to shout this from the roof tops. I was so angry and discouraged and ready to go to PC. Glad I had a great CS agent.

I have had my iPad3 for a couple of weeks now and was so disappointed with it's WiFi connectivity that I bought an Apple Airport Express to extend my WiFi network into the living room. It improved the situation but the iPad still doesn't connect as well as my Netbook and elderly Dell Laptop. I also bought an Apple TV box to mirror the iPad display onto my 42" Panasonic TV. However, the mirrored display lasts about 5 seconds before the connection is dropped. This is my first foray into Apple gear and I was expecting great things after hearing all the Apple hype. Unless this is resolved quickly by Apple, I shall be returning the iPad and Apple TV for a refund under the sale of goods act!

You may want to post in these forums instead.

Seems other people are having these issues with Aironet, and we have no expertise with Cisco's operating system's CLI here, or its command line configuration.

You may want to schedule a service call with someone with expertise in cisco networking equipment.

Thanks.
